Australia v All Blacks - Bled I

3 good games in a row from the AB's - dare we hope??
Loved how we were physical and disciplined esp. on D and then put the points on at the end of each half.
Great micro-skills too, that quick short ball passing under pressure in the backline was impressive.
Roigard looked good when he came on, pass was like bullet and he was quick to the ruck. Hope he gets more game-time to see what he's made of.

Biggest negative in the match was the cleanout work of the tight five. I don't think it's a personnel issue as it's happened multiple times in the last few years with different players involved. It's like we have too many players holding width for the next phase and we become easy to disrupt.
-
I'd imagine Weber's issue is his lack of size? Want a bigger 9 to close out the games?

Christie has played 16 tests and by all accounts has played well enough to continue to be selected.
He has continued to be selected because the selectors have been keen to move on from Weber and Perenara and there was a lack of better alternatives outside those known quantities.
Roigard should be given as many minutes as possible because, if, God forbid, something happens to Aaron Smith, we want our BEST halfback starting, not some guy who has been passable at best.
I love your passion as a fan Frank but I doubt selectors and coaches will see it your way. I could be wrong but Hansen & Fozzie have been pretty consistent how they select and promote players.

Cam is the 3rd option. Let him develop as such. Unless he can be outstanding and give us something we don’t have now I’d stick with Smith/Christie.
Roigard offered something different to Christie last night. His speed and accuracy of pass was a huge reason the ABs didnt have their typical late game fade.
Agree. The team really stepped up when Roigard came on. Maybe a coincidence but maybe not. Starting him next week will give the coaches a much better idea.
He's at a different level to Christie. I think Roigard has the potential to be a future great like Smith. Christie looks only ok to me.
I didn't watch as much of the Hurricanes games (sober) as some others, so haven't bought into the Roigard hype.
But he seems more composed that Christie.
I do wonder if they left Webber out as they know he was No.2 and they've been testing these two.
My conspiracy theory and I'm sticking with it.
Smith Webber, Roigard in that order for me.
Webber is a baffling one. I can't believe that Fozz would choose the ginga over him
I know I’ve been defending Ginga but you’re right. I’m baffled as to why Weber isn’t backing up Smith. Then you can afford to carry and develop Roigard.

Eddie’s press conference to enjoy, especially if you are Dave Rennie.
Blame McLenahan. Apparently it was his Capt call to bring back Eddie. Then he got his mate Waugh selected as CEO once Jonker had enough.
Eddie’s just being Eddie. It may work out, especially if Wallabies can get to RWC final.

Is it because we need extra width when we play Mo’unga at 10? When we go around the ruck it isn’t a problem, but maybe we are needing too many big bodies just a touch too wide when we go lateral so that we can set up the wrap plays they seem to prefer for Mo’unga?

@Chris-B in addition to the other stats the AB’s discipline has been noticeable and to not have had any cards in the RC is impressive.
It’s a false dawn. I’m just going to throw it out there, but I reckon we will get carded off the park in the World Cup….

I don’t think that’s the case. From my armchair it’s more about having more bodies in the play to create number mismatches. The short passing / offload game that we saw under Henry is back and then once we have created go forward and drawn in opposition defenders then we go wide

Maybe Christie fits their game plan better? But Weber seems more assertive to me, I'd prefer him.
I'd see Christie as back up for Nuggie, and Roigard in pole position against Weber and Fakatava as impact/closer.

I’m a little blown away with what a great player Scott Barrett has become.
I almost looked at him as a token selection due to the sir name when he was first selected, I got that wrong.
-
I’m not too concerned about that.
If we are getting carded then other sides will be too.
We keep up our physicality and breakdown work we won’t be under pressure with penalties etc.
We need to have that consistency in performance, which we have seen so far this year

Hard to get a full sense at the ground.
Some thoughts
-
Good crowd and good pyrotechnics but the sound tends to go up. I thought the atmosphere was better under the roof at the Marvel last year but the better game probably contributed to that. To get 84k at a Bledisloe given how the Wallabies are going is a good effort. The G is an excellent venue to get in and out of though.
-
Jordan is something else. We are usually blessed with good wingers but he is on another level.
-
I think we really need DMac in the 23 in the big games come RWC. That first 30 mins or so Wallabies defence was good and at times we needed more variety. Other teams will have that same strong defence for 80 minutes and we will need to mix it up.
-
Jordie gets through an absolute mountain of work and has so many good involvements. Easily our best 12 since Nonu.
-
Roigard is our bench 9. Was watching him very closely and he was superb - his service was excellent and he made a huge difference. So much better than Christie it isnt funny.
-
Wallabies need to take some things off of Gordon's plate. He's had to do everything - goal kick, restart, kick for touch, run everything at 10.
-
Best I've seen Clarke look for ABs for a long time. Might have been last chance saloon if he didn't (Telea far better left wing option though). All the bench was good.
Scott Barrett is the first lock picked. Currently nz rugby player of the year imo. Which means frizzell can stay at 6. I’d be tempted to start whitelock ahead of retallick
Jordie at 12 is quickly becoming world class and in the discussion for world XV.
I thought the work down the blindside was a good option. Made loads of yards at times.
The replacement props were actually ok this week.
Missing link = impact loose forward. We could really do with a replacement loosie with genuine impact.

You did. It’s surname.
