All Blacks Vs Springboks RC Week 2

If Mo'unga shits the bed this week, where are we?
If he doesn't, where are we?
I don't get the selections with the WC really not that far away.
I don't get why they would start Dmac last week then drop him, despite being excellent.
Him on the bench this week, would likely give us far more danger.
I can't see much evidence of a plan, yet.

Our bench looks a bit unconvincing compared to theirs

Understatement

Let's give Frizell his upteenth chance to prove he can't hack it against physical sides.
Let's put Christie in despite not knowing what he actually brings except having played more games than Roigard.
Let's drop DMac from the 23 entirely, because it didn't matter how he played last week, that was always our plan.
Let's keep hoping our fuck all impact lock when starting (Vaa'i) is going to to be able to come on and make an impact.

Foster really is clueless, isn’t he? No feel for selection, no willingness to take a chance on players. He just moves the pieces around the chessboard without any sense of an over-arching strategy at work.

@Nepia might be his D? He's probably our best defensive 9.
But as he stunts the attack I don't see the point.
Roigard is a pretty good defender too and a much better attacking 9.
And a much better kicker. The last game vs Brumbies he was outstanding with his kicking.
-
One of the themes of Fozzie's selection is he avoids making tough decisions.
With the first fives he gives everyone a go.
The only reason Jordie is at 12 is multiple injuries last year and even then he rotated 12s on the end of year tour despite Jordie being a revalation at 12 in Bledisloe 2 last year.
With his 3 locks injury has meant he hasn't had to make a tough call there yet this year but in the past has put Barrett at 6 to squeeze them all on the field.
I don't believe he has ever started Jordan at fullback but he'll pick him on the wing etc.
-
Why not give Roigard a run? His style is way more suited to the Boks than Christie. We know what Christie can do (not very much) so why not give guys a crack. Soooo frustrating.
-
Foster is such a pussy for dropping Dmac to keep Beaudy

No cover at 10 aside from BB switching there could really hurt us in this game, I'm just not a fan of the RB/BB combination as they seem to feed off each others mistakes and the attack degenerates into a headless chicken shambles.
I hope they prove me wrong on the weekend.
Clarke is on the bench seems so Jordan can go to 15 and BB to 10, so I guess they're going for their "best" impact winger there.
Sam T really should be starting, especially against the physical Boks. The Bok's simply swap big man for big man so you gain little from having a "big man impact" player on the bench who will likely play less minutes than Codie. It's a waste.
On the bright side I'm happy with the locking combination and that our midfield combination has stayed (though fear with RM running the cutter they will be nowhere as effective).
Also glad to see the loose forward combination stay - if for nothing to see if the excellent performance against the Argies was a fluke or the sign of a loose forward combination finally gelling.
We took a step forward against the Ariges - this game it will be very easy to take 2 steps backwards...

Clarke on the bench must mean Jordan to fb at some point , that must be his plan , Richie or bb off

I think the plan is that Mo'unga is their preferred 10 and was always getting the start in this test.
What will be interesting is whether they have it pre-planned that Beaudy shifts to 10 for the last 15-20 minutes. If he does, that might indicate that on current form they're not completely convinced he can cover 10 in the event of an injury. If he doesn't, that might be an indicator they don't think they'll need DMac on the bench later in the year and are happy with Beaudy as cover.
Pretty close to the team I was expecting (assuming Big Sam didn't play) - especially once Nogusta gave his intel on Telea. Pretty much the team they think is their strongest available line-up - with Telea and Tamaiti little dice rolls in positions that aren't locked down. I thought DMac would be on the bench. I sort of hoped Roigard would be.

Or Clarke just replaces MT or Jordan in a straight swap. We’ve seen that before.
I’m not a big fan of Clarke’s performances as an AB, but I do like the extra size on the bench for impact.

so, RM or BB off...Jordan to 15, Telea to 14 and Clarke to 11? so much shuffling around
-
I think we missed a golden opportunity to look at dmac as first receiver against against a very good defensive side like the boks .
Even if it’s off the bench with 20 to go
-
@kiwiinmelb agree 100% - we haven't seen the fresh back from Japan Dmac at the international level at all, we've seen more than enough of the RB/BB combination.
