Argentina v All Blacks

Rieko Ioane's defence has been excellent.
Stats have him missing 50% of his tackles (5 out if 10) so not so sure about that.
Midfield combo looked good tho apart from that
-
Can't remember the last time the ABs started their first game of the year looking so slick, normally a rusty slow start.
Also satisfying to finally see them properly attacking the opposition throw getting a jumper up early as opposed to their normal half arsed lift

I was surprised to see that missed tackle count - thought he missed 1 or two but not that many.

Jordie Barrett finally moving to 12 could potentially be the winning of this World Cup. The options he offers our attack and his defence will be the difference in the big games.
All blacks should be doing a 6-2 split on the bench with all the versatility in the backline of everyone playing heaps of positions. Just one normal back to cover injuries and a lot of short hard impacts in the forwards

Missed tackle stats can be misleading. If he's rushing up and/or shepherding a player a certain way it can be put down as a missed tackle.

Good first up win, after a shaky first play. I don't want to be too negative but what the fuck was up with that? Clear from the first ruck, don't create a second and then pass to a player in a worse position for a kick.

I wouldn't have Frizzell usually, but he got a go today and was solid, fair play to him. He might have earned another shot next week.
I think it's the best test that he's played or his publicist TJ just convinced us of it by mentioning how well he was playing constantly (and on occasion assigning stuff to him that Savea had done).

I deleted a couple of posts that were talking only about the Aussie/Saffa result as this game kicked off. It spoiled the result for me but I wasn't surprised I saw it in this thread
Pissed me off they spoiled it in the commentary.
Now for the fun read back through the thread.

@WillieTheWaiter I was thinking the same thing - 4 minutes in and it looked like the usual scratchy start, 7 minutes later and the game was over.

Something that was obvious to some of us years ago....

Then Stevenson on the bench has appeal to me..

@Nepia Yeah he was solid. A 7 out of 10 performance for me. The commentators made out like it was prime Kaino out there which it wasn't, but he did a decent enough job.
I reckon Fozzie and Ryan will be delighted with Frizell.
He was doing exactly what I think he's picked for - providing a tall and effective third lineout option, making his tackles and trucking the ball up one off the ruck and securely recycling. Got himself around the park and a few nice little touches e.g. in the first try, as well.

Cully nails it re: the attack. A lot of good stuff in this article.
What was striking about the All Blacks was how few times they went into predictable three-man pod systems in attack. McKenzie, meanwhile, frequently stepped in at first receiver rather than a tight forward, and he always had willing runners to choose from. A plea to New Zealand’s Super Rugby teams – follow suit and empower your No 10s: they don’t have to spend most of the game sitting out the back waiting for a backdoor play.

The naysayers also saw his poor super season as further proof of his lack of suitability in the position. I pointed to the fact that the canes never deployed him in a conventional 10-12-13 axis, preferring to have forwards running in the backline

@SouthernMann said in Argentina v All Blacks:
How much trouble is Cane going to be in for this?
Fucker got what he deserved. Should have shoulder charged like Nonu did to one a few years back. Could have hurt his leg like that!
-
I'm all for playing stupid games, win stupid prizes. But he will face some strong consequences for this.
-
Why the fuck should Sam Cane apologise?
If anything, he should apologise to the world for only kicking him and not doing more
If you invade the pitch at a sporting match your right to be treated with human decency is revoked while you’re there. Good man Sam.
