Argentina v All Blacks

I’m a bit pissed to not see Finau there, I assume he’ll get a go against Oz or even SA.
I don’t think Stevenson gets capped. Roigard maybe.
Can only think Foster, Ryan and co want to both have a closer look at some of the new players and give them time to settle in - esp. as their 1st taste of AB rugby is outside of NZ. Narawa is an outlier though. From what Foster said, they def. rate SS but have a few concerns about defence which they want to work with him on and the door is very much open.
My guess is we'll probably see Roigard and Finau in the 23 in Melbourne and poss. SS too.

Are we still trying to believe what Foster says? Just like last year he was selecting the hookers on form eh...but then changed his tune and you even bought that!
He just makes shit up to tell the media/public.
Selecting Jordan and Clarke but not selecting Stevenson because of defence is about as believable as that time I rode a horse to the sun.

.but what tried and tested combos has he gone with?
Ardie/Cane/Frizzel, De Groot/Coles/Lomax, BB/CC/RI.
If Telea or Jordan were fully fit and he'd picked Mo'unga at 10 instead of the form SR 10 it would be a pretty experienced & settled team. The exception is Lord at 5 and the lack of cover for 12 on the bench - so he's rolled the dice there a bit.

Meanwhile Beauden's most recent defensive play for the ABs was getting himself binned at Twickenham which was a huge contributing factor in the ABs throwing away a win.

I'm certain their misgivings are about his defence.
He was def. considered for this Test and has impressed:
“He featured in discussion and we decided to go somewhere else,” Foster told reporters in Mendoza. “I’ve been impressed with Shaun since he’s come in. Sometimes it’s good for people to come in and get a feel for the space and to learn.
“I think he’s doing everything we’re asking from him and that’s all we can really ask of all our squad members; to really enjoy being here and train hard and he’s done that and he’s done everything we’ve asked of him so did he feature in the conversation? Yes, he did.”

by tried and tested i did assume we were talking about combos that passed the test....haven't we been talking for months about BB, CC and Frizell at least not firing for the AB's...so two of those combos have weak links

Playing devil's advocate, what's gonna happen if after another couple of games some of the retained stalwarts are still outta form

but the game is on at 4:00 in the morning here so alcohol is not an option.
Fuck me, have you never heard of an All-Nighter?
-
@BerniesCorner nothing....nothing will happen...the die is cast

Hey still tested, just because they failed the test!
No one, in the history of test rugby looked at EdG, DC and TL and thought....now there's a front row that's seen everything together.

De Groot/Coles
how much has Coles played with De Groot?
-
This might be CC & BB drinking in the Last Chance Saloon - haven't been impressed with either in SR or in 2022 and BB's kicking is shit. Much prefer to have a fit Jordan or confident SS at 15.
But as someone mentioned above, Foster wasn't going to throw a whole bunch of newbies in against Argentina in the 1st Test of the season when the AB's are normally rusty.

That may or may not be true because he is hardly going to say the opposite. We need to take statements like that (from anybody) with a grain salt.

@Crazy-Horse when Henry/Hansen (less late Hansen) used to say it, and I disagreed, I trusted their decision making more, they had the results to back up thier decisions, Foster doesnt.
Sure he has a had a poor record, alot will largely get forgotten if he pulls off the RWC, but for that, he needs to be bold, nothing here screams bold.

Not sure the 11/10/13 axis is traditionally considered a “combo”…

I'm not sure throwing in a bunch of rusty players instead is the answer.

I'd rather die by the sword than survive on limp lettuce

I am hoping a few others have also been given notice. Looking at you Laulala and Frizell.
