Hurricanes 2024

@Canes4life It's just a rumour.
-
@Stargazer @george33 seems pretty adamant unless he’s trolling.
A pretty big F U to the Canes on Roigard’s behalf if true.
-
@Canes4life I no he's had another super team put contract on table but that's it and if u guys start this troll stuff I just won't say anymore ok easy I'll just move on
-
@Canes4life There are a few Ferners with reliable sources. No offence to George, he may be right this time, but generally he isn't one of them.
-
@Stargazer I hope he isn’t right.

@SouthernMann I normally would aswell but losing Roigard is like receiving a kick in the face. Especially considering I’ve been blatantly backing him all year.

How would you feel if it was a young Wellington player who left with their paths blocked at the Canes. Went elsewhere. Rumours swirled he was going back. You'd say he was our player, grew up supporting us. He will look forward to coming home. It is all swings at roundabouts. There is very few loyalties in profesional sport.
-
The complicating factor for the Canes, will be that Roigard was almost certainly signed on a one-year deal because the majority of non All Blacks sign to end of World Cup cycles. If that is the case, it is entirely possible this was signed and sorted back in March, before the season has even started.
That said, I'd be surprised by it - not to say George hasn't been fed true info. Same thing with Mark Telea to the Highlanders etc. There are way more offers go in than people realise, example being, the Highlanders offered for both Beauden Barrett and RTS... just their offers were a financial joke. Would be a blow to the Canes whatever the case though, and a blow to Cortez Ratima, who is a great player in his own right. Would leave the Canes massively short at halfback.

It's not true. Most top players stick with their initial team unless they move overseas BBBR is one example.
I hope we keep Roigard. For one he's only one of three ABs for 2024. But he's a special talent. His kicking game is outstanding. He could be the AB starting HB for years to come.
It would also reflect poorly on him if he leaves. An individual with no sense of loyalty. Not what I want in an ABs

Did it reflect poorly on Tyrel Lomax when he left the Highlanders?
-
@Winger totally, Smith was also from the Manawatu and was a Landers legend, same with Whitelock with the Crusaders, and McKenzie/Rettalick with the Chiefs.
He’s only an All Black now because the Canes picked him up a couple years ago. He would have been third behind Weber and Ratima at the Chiefs if he stayed in Waikato and ironically would probably be looking to sign with a team like the Canes having struggled to get game time.

A bit. But he wasn't happy so returned home. And he wasn't a player who improved massively from nothing much to an AB
-
@SouthernMann I’m not disputing the fact that Roigard wants to go home, I’m just disappointed because the Canes are the reason he’s in black this year. If he stayed at the Chiefs he may never have been given a chance to impress behind Weber and Ratima and would almost be a no name right now.
Definitely a player that I’m gutted to see go because he is classy, he’s young and he is only going to get better.

For every Smith, Whitelock and Mckenzie. There is an Israel Dagg, Tyrel Lomax, Nepo Laulala. That's just a few off the top of my head. Plenty more. The thing about being an All Black is that you have complete freedom of choice.
