@Canes4life is the prop Newland any relation to Clint Newland?
Could be this guy out of Whanganui.
-
Nephew I believe. @Stargazer posted something a while back.

With Godfrey starting at 10 the Canes obviously see him as a future 10 so that's good to see. 2024 might be a little early for him though but he should be pushing for that role in the top team come 2025. Let's hope Morgan Fs off.
Hopefully Godfrey still sees plenty of mins either at fullback or off the bench for the main side.

@Grooter not too sure. If he can scrum like Clint then he’ll be a weapon.
Also does anyone know if that’s the Patrick Tuifua that played for the French Under 20s?
Yes, it's him. I wonder whether he was not kept by the French U20 team as he was their main weapon against Ireland and Scotland.

Has Veveni Lasaqa thrown his lot in with the Canes now last I heard he was with the Chiefs.
He was a Chiefs NDC player in 2022 but has never been in the Chiefs main squad. The Hurricanes seem to have a few BOP players in their wider squad, Reon Paul is another.

The Hurricanes Hunters (Hurricanes dev side) bt the Chiefs equivalent 35-34 today in Taupo, lead by TJ Perenara and Harry Godfrey.

A thrashing. Wonder how Godfrey went. Was it televised

@Winger no summary of the game anywhere but I suspect both Perenara and Godfrey had a big influence on the result. Looked like a solid Chiefs lineup so it’s a good result for the extended Canes squad and Godfrey’s future aspirations to play 10 at Super level.
We also have to remember that Godfrey was named the player of the tournament at the Under 20s comp playing 10 last year so he’s building a good track record.

54 minutes in 29-7 after a 22-0 lead at HT
A superb display by the Canes so far. The coaches got the selections right. A very promising start after the disaster of the previous few years. In fact, ever since Plumtree took over.
Then the team looked really well conditioned. But they are playing like a well-coached team with VG team spirit.
I know it's just the Force and only one game in but this is such a huge change for a Canes fan. After the rubbish from recent years. I was so happy after useless Gibbes and Holland both left and it's continued with the team selections and this start.

@Mr-Fish the biggest handbrake on the Canes last year was Holland not picking form players. Laidlaw looks to have brought more of a attacking mentality back to the Canes aswell.
I think the biggest difference though is Laidlaw looks to have built a great culture in the off-season. Just look at how the players rallied around young Jordi Vijoen when he scored that try, it’s a sign of a tight knit team which is good to see.
