Hurricanes 2024

Ardie might not be too happy. So, no Savea in the team next year.
Is Moorby's future seen on the wing. With Love and Godfrey covering FB. Not great wingers but Naholo & Moorby might be the best starters. Rayasi is great and average. Maybe the new coaches can sort this out. And Sinkinson has been a bit ordinary so far.
But bye to The Bus. His attitude was so much better when he returned but time caught up with him. He might be seen again this year playing for Wellington. But where next in super rugby? And I hope it works out for him at least for one more year
Super Rugby: Julian Savea reveals ‘brutal’ departure from Hurricanes, signs for new franchise
Hurricanes management confirmed after Savea’s post that he is “departing” the franchise.
He is deemed surplus to requirements, having Kini Naholo, Joshua Moorsby, Dan Sinkinson and Salesi Rayasi in the outside back stocks.
However, in a second social media post Savea stressed he was not retiring - and has signed for another Super Rugby franchise.
“I still have plenty of more years in the tank,” he said.
“I will be joining another Super Rugby team and will be announcing that next week. Watch this space.”

Will Savea be going to Moana Pasifikia?

Either there or the Clan?

Haha. Probably about as much chance as me playing for my Highlanders next year. We have six wingers signed for next year. Savea I believe prefers to live in Auckland. So MP makes sense.

@SouthernMann Yep mate, must admit I hadn't seen who Clan had signed in outside backs, and on reflection would probably go against their staed policy of trying to promore from within where possible. I kind of hope it is with MP, he would be available for Samoa too if they wanted, and Tana has said he only wants players that are available for PI teams.

Waga Nalaga.
The Drua are hunting him.He will get a SR contact somewhere.

@Dan54 he may also join Matt Proctor at the Rebels. They are good mates after all and he owes nothing to NZ rugby.
I hope the Canes have signed up the exciting Waga Nalaga.
Western Force another one who have always been keen to sign past it New Zealanders... I still would be stunned if it isn't Moana Pasifika though.

@Canes4life Maybe not, if he wants to play for Fiji?

@frugby If not the Canes, I think the Drua are more likely than MP if he wants to play for Fiji.
Yep, but if he wants to play for NZ, MP might be the halfway house - see Tavatavanawai.

Just noticed Epeli Waqa Nalaga was named Hurricanes U20 player of the year (https://facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=1439750943121245&id=426520427777640). It is a familiar name to all Top 14 fans. He is little brother of legendary Clermont wing Napolioni Nalaga (his other older brother Inoke also made pro debut for Agen this year).

That was Jan 2023 before SR started.
I have heard the Drua are trying to sign him,I don’t think he has signed as yet.
He will end up somewhere in SR for 2024.
Maybe the Canes or Drua.I'd bet good money on Drua 24&25, before earning a fat contract in France.

If he can make the ABs then an even fatter contract. Unsure if he's good enough but looks potentially an exciting prospect from the little I have seen.

@Winger There was that guy who there was similar talk about from BOP a few years ago, I've forgotten his name, but he went to the Drua and then was snapped up by the French. NZ produce so many outside backs, and this guy wasn't even in the NZ U20s. The next two All Black wingers who haven't debuted are probably Tangitau and Springer... maybe Ratumaitavuki-Kneepkens if he can click for the Landers.
