Hurricanes 2024

@Canes4life Kane Le'aupepe as well would have had many caps if not for injury. Over 2metres.
-
@Canes4life Michael Fatiolofa and Naitoa Ah Koui are very closely related. Can't recall exactly how but was told what it was by Naitoa's mother's uncle a year or two back!

This has been posted in the Exodus thread but gigantic lock James Blackwell has signed to play over in the Japan Top League.
The average height of the Canes forwards will drop significantly as a result of this announcement.
-
@Canes4life He will arrive in Japan thinking "at last I will be a normal sized Lock" then find himself marking 2.06m Saffa's.

Hope he's still available for Wellington. At NPC level he's fine.
And I hope it goes well for him in Japan. Now for the Canes to find at least one tall quality lock
So one unknown status has re-signed and one is leaving. Hopefully we will find out more soon
-
@Winger I hope so too, especially considering we've already lost Plumtree. Nevertheless it's a great opportunity for the likes of Hugo Plummer and Anthony Pettett (who are both significantly taller than Blackwell) to step up and stake a claim for a couple of those Hurricanes contracts.

For the Lions or Canes? Where did you see this?

For the Canes. PRS has re-signed for 2014.
Edit you've missed HB from you unknown contract status list

@Winger oh lol, that's because I thought I was in the Lions thread.
Hopefully the person leaving is JSavea. Time for him to move on I'd say but him falling short of being the top Super Rugby try scorer might just keep him around unfortunately.
-
@Canes4life maybe but with Laidlaw coming in I think we'll see a bit of a shake up.
I wonder how long until we get word on the rest of the coaching group.
And Roigard being retained so I can sleep at night...

Don't know anyone whose leaving apart from Blackwell.

Looking at our 2023 squad I'd think these guys have question marks.
Julian Savea - past it.
Blackwell - gone.
Prinsep - not up to standard. The questions...
Rayasi - shouldn't really be on here. But I hope Laidlaw can unleash his potential. Still too up and down at times (part of this is on Holland for dropping him when he's had a stormer. Must be frustrating for Salesi.)
Bird - getting on a bit.
Tosi - not given many chances. Was excited when we snagged him after his BoP form.
Morgan - not sure his ceiling is much higher than it currently is. Gives a hundy though. Not a starter for me.
Booth - I guess as a third choice he's okay? Could be some young half we could snag though.
Sinkinson - perhaps a bit harsh given his age and only his first year at this level. He looked pretty lost when he got chances particularly on D. Hopefully improves next year.

I thought Sinkinson defense was ok vs the Brumbies. But his attack was rubbish. Savea was better. Rayasi is great at his best but inconsistent
Bird I would be happy with 1 more year. Tosi looks a bit ordinary to me
Booth was rubbish. Time too find someone else -
I will be curious to see how young Turbos lock Josh Tuala goes in this years Bunnings NPC 2.03 metres listed at 114kgs , those stats were from last year , came on as replacement for the Turbos in their last game of the year against Northland , was quite impressed with his physicality..
Could be a locking option for the Canes definitely doesn’t lack height -
I have good word that TJ Perenara will be at the Canes next year but won't be taking part again in any rugby for the remainder of 2023 after having revision surgery on his achillies.
