This is basically telling the players that they need to impress the next guy not listen to the current one.
Let’s say you are a Saders player and Foster tries to get you doing something that you know Razor doesn’t do and doesn’t agree with……I don't buy this at all.
In practical terms I just don't see this happening at all.
So in your example the said player is going to risk being part of the 2023 rwc squad to impress Razor for the 2024 squad - which isn't picked until at the end of the 2024 Super season?
That’s not what I am saying. Influence can be way more subtle. We talk about the top two inches and how a clear head is the key to good performances.
By going early NZR have basically given the current coach a vote of no confidence. If a player has any questions about the direction being given by Foster that is now cemented.
You don’t get good performance that way.
The team leaders will have their work cut out keeping everyone on the same page.No. Foster had the chance to nominate, he didn't. NZR didn't wait until the good coaches were all taken by other sides. Good on them, sound business decision. They said in public Foster could put his hat in the ring.

Happy for Robertson. Let him at it……..next year.
Not happy that NZR were bullied into making a decision now and have undermined the current coaching team.
They haven't. They've selected their replacement for next year. This coaching team was selected to do a job until the end of this year.
Indeed. Better to sort it now rather than have a coach less team next year when Robertson has fucked off overseas.
Again. Where too? Fiji?

The team leaders will have their work cut out keeping everyone on the same page.I don't think it does any more damage than having the constant shadow of Fozzie vs Razor hanging over the squad if they waited, which has what has happened for the last 3 years.
But who created that shadow. I blame the media. Traditional and social.
Also results created the shadow.
If the players love Fozzie as much as we hear they'll more than happily take direction from him.
Heck a huge chunk of the leadership team isnt even here next year anyway. Aaron Smith, Beaudie, Mo'unga, Ardie, Whitelock, Retallick etc.

We’re going over old ground now. Fosters best/only chance is based on completion of the job he was employed to do. That option was taken away.
People keep using their office analogies so here’s one.
You are employed on contract to deliver something by the end of the year. The employer says you can apply now to extend your contract but the decision wont be based on whether you successfully deliver what you are working towards.
Your team now sees you as a dead duck and have one eye on keeping the new guy happy. -

This place will be fun if we get a repeat of the Cantablacks of the Mitchell/Deans era. There might be some TSF favourites on the outer.
If you're lucky I might start posting again.

Your team now sees you as a dead duck and have one eye on keeping the new guy happy.Nope. I've worked in an office on major projects and that makes no sense to me. It's a RWC. The last/big goal for many of these players.
They're not going to run slower, miss tackles or breakdance on the field to impress the 2024 coach. -
oh and Foster's job targets isn't just the RWC 2023.
Even Foster’s boss, NZ Rugby chief executive Mark Robinson, felt the team’s performances against the Irish were “unacceptable”, promising a review of the series as the post-mortem into one of the darkest days in the history of the national game swung into action.
Foster has already had a contract extension, of sorts, well actually a new contract.

@nostrildamus He would be defense coach, the same role he has had for the Crusaders.

Your team now sees you as a dead duck and have one eye on keeping the new guy happy. This makes no sense. A bunch of these guys are leaving anyway and will want to go out on a high. And winning the RWC is not commensurate with securing an AB squad place in 2024, just like a spot in this year's RWC squad was not entirely dependent on results from last year
