This place will be fun if we get a repeat of the Cantablacks of the Mitchell/Deans era. There might be some TSF favourites on the outer.
I'm not going to be surprised if that's exactly what happens. Here come third pick journeymen Crusaders.
Let’s see if he proves me wrong.
Indeed. Who has stood up so far as this generations Sam Broomhall to name just one ?

Enjoy your ban, we’ll be here waiting for you when you get back

@Kirwan given preparation seems to be a big part of his successes to date, he has alot of months to get himself prepared for his first naming in what, May 2024?
Geez, that is a long time to wait now...
It's weird having two All Black coaches. Modern times I guess.
We have one coach, with another taking over when he leaves. Most jobs at my work are like that -- we know the replacement well out from the actual change.
How does that differ from when Hansen was clearly going to take over from Henry? Or when Foster was basically certain to take over from Hansen? If anything it is normal procedure now.
The Wyllie-Hart era was much more bizarre.
Got no problem with it. I don't expect for Razor to have any input until 2024, I'd expect him to answer any questions regarding the current team with a straight bat. He's won the job, now let Fozzie get on with it without distraction

4 years later than it should have been but yeah! Finally a coach selected on his record and not his connections. I expect some promotion of youth as the ABs need a rebuild.
As an aside I hope this lets foster concentrate on the job at hand. NZ are rank outsiders for the first time ever which might work in our favour.
Has to be less pressure if the expectation is lower and fozzie is technically already out the door .

One thing i like about Razor he thinks outside the square when it comes to selection a lot can be seen about the way the Crusaders recruit and does’nt matter who he selects hes got a great ability to get the best out of them ..
I know some pundits have always questioned how much depth they have in the front row as their scrum over the years has been such a weapon but all of a sudden they have bought through Fletcher Newall ,Tamaiti Williams ,Finlay Brewis and Kershawl Sykes-Martin…where as if you look at the Blues , they went to the market and got Nepo Laulala and Hodgeman . Renata and the Lay brothers are solid props but are hardly guys that were ever gonna push on to be All Blacks
Joshua Fusitua is the only young prop I can think of in recent times that could progress on to being a very good prop -

Foster is a proud man and legacy will mean something - his own and the AB legacy.
Plus it’s the ABs, in my view we are expected to be there or thereabouts regardless of previous records. It’s not like we are losing every other match and we do have some quality players.
I’m certainly expecting us to be at the pointy end.

Well TF for that. Now Foster can get on with preparation for the WC without this kind of distraction hanging over the group. Must be a relief for Razor. Well done that man!

It’s very different. The examples you use were never locked in until the existing coach had finished and the existing coach had announced that they were retiring.
This is basically telling the players that they need to impress the next guy not listen to the current one.
Let’s say you are a Saders player and Foster tries to get you doing something that you know Razor doesn’t do and doesn’t agree with……
There was zero need to make the signing now. -

In practical terms I just don't see this happening at all.
So in your example the said player is going to risk being part of the 2023 rwc squad to impress Razor for the 2024 squad - which isn't picked until at the end of the 2024 Super season?

There was zero need to make the signing now.
Potentially to prevent their coach from signing elsewhere they needed to do it early. The question was asked of Robertson in the video above and he brushed it, but agreed there were offers

So where’s the elsewhere that is bigger than the ABs?

That’s not what I am saying. Influence can be way more subtle. We talk about the top two inches and how a clear head is the key to good performances.
By going early NZR have basically given the current coach a vote of no confidence. If a player has any questions about the direction being given by Foster that is now cemented.
You don’t get good performance that way.
The team leaders will have their work cut out keeping everyone on the same page. -

Secure job >> chance of an AB role and unemployment otherwise.
Reality is we're a minnow, and we can't run a process 6 months behind everyone else like we did last time. It sucks on Foster, but that is life - I think they've done this better than last time. At least we had credible candidates this time (albeit probably only 2)
-
@Crucial Im not in his inner circle perhaps you can do that research?, just conveying that there was a potential reason as the question was asked, avoided, then confirmed other offers existed all while "Robbo" was smirking.

Happy for Robertson. Let him at it……..next year.
Not happy that NZR were bullied into making a decision now and have undermined the current coaching team.
They haven't. They've selected their replacement for next year. This coaching team was selected to do a job until the end of this year.
