Out of interest - if Kane had been run out - could he have reviewed for a no-ball on height?
Not only that, but did the BCs have time to get the winning runs or would it have been declared a draw ? Not having watched any of it I was glued to cricinfo and not sure if they mentioned it.

Some interesting stats. First overall from the esteemed Francis Payne:
Secondly, some interesting commentary a few pages back about Nicholls average as one of the reasons for keeping him relative to others. Saw somewhere that his batting average in with WTC cycle is 21.
Would have been nice for Paddles to have some support. I know draws were more common in his day but did he really only have 22 wins as a player in 86 tests ? Southee having 40 in 93 is pretty fucken impressive.
That quote from Graham Gooch was very apt.

I believe so as it would have been run out so the umpires would have to go upstairs to review everything about the delivery whether Kane asked for it or not...

Was the throw that missed hitting the stumps at Wagner's end going to hit the stumps at the non-striker's end?
And if so, would it have made it there faster than the fella turning and throwing it?
And would Wags have been run out if it hit the batsman's end wicket? Not sure we saw a replay of that.

Have also seen suggestions that the bowler should have Mankaded Wagner... it was all on for that final delivery, but somehow we snuck through all the usual pitfalls

I personally don't think the ball thrown by the keeper with a glove was travelling fast enough especially after it bounced (even if accurate enough) to get Kane out without the fielder..however it is a good point about Wags, I guess it missed regardless, but I don't remember seeing a replay showing that either
the highlight shown in below video isn't obvious on the first point and like yesterday never shows the second if you haven't seen the runout attempt at all.

My team for the second test, which I'm sure we won't pick (and expecting that the Basin pitch will look more green and dangerous than the reality), but here goes:
- Conway
- Latham
- Williamson
- Young
- Nicholls
- Mitchell
- Blundell
- Sodhi
- D Bracewell
- Henry
- Southee
With number 8 - 11 quite interchangeable in the batting lineup, and much more bowling for Mitchell.
Reality is probably Tickner staying for Young, and M. Bracewell staying instead of Sodhi on an illusion of batting deeper.

actually the video i posted shows Wags waiting for the ball to be released from bowlers hands before sprinting/hobbling

Excellent, I didn't think he'd stolen much ground, if any, but I guess the Sri Lankan fans were busy relitigating their options

lol, a bit like the thousand wides that went against them after being warned for negative bowling

Letβs forget the short stuff for awhile and remember we have a test starting tomorrow.
Is Bracewell straight in the team as a replacement for Wags ?
Does Nicholls get another shot ?
I could be completely wrong but I can easily see this SL team crumbling after their heartbreaking loss and get absolutely hammered this test to be honest.
-
Yeah all this ODI stuff confused me and I thought I'd got confused and it was just a one off test.
I don't think there's a replacement in the squad for Nicholls since Young was released, so I think he plays.
Bracewell is probably straight in for Wags.
