@No-Quarter This would be a good innings for both Kane and Henry both to pay us what we're owed in terms of runs!!!
Nice opening stand but Young did himself no favours again. Hardly beating down the door as an alternative for Nichols
Yeah - we didn't need to give up a cheap wicket.
Need to bat all day tomorrow and probably 90 minutes on Tuesday. Book in for bed and breakfast boys!!!!
I reckon England will chase whatever we set and our best chance is to set something steep and have them chase hard longer than they should.

I dunno, chasing in tests is tough, it's not like ODIs where there are restrictions on bowlers and fielders. I think if we set them 200 plus they'll be a bit nervous. Early wickets like we got in the first innings and it could get very interesting. I think they were wrong to enforce the follow on, I'd only do that with a 300+ lead, even then it's better to just completely bat the other side out of the game. They could have easily done that.

So what target should we set?
Question remains
Your boys need to bat and bat yet. I’d be surprised if it comes to a declaration, though Southee can be an aggressive captain. However, I think we’ll be chasing around 200, with a reasonable amount of time.

Test cricket being the funny beast it is I’m almost loathe to make any predictions…….
Here’s a glass half full one.
We have KW still in, class player, our best ever.
Nicholls surely due some sort of score.
Mitchell and Blundell have both scored big against England.
Bracewell is capable ( although I’d never pick him in my team )
Plus a bit of chaotic support from the bowlers.
I hope the boys slept well and are all focussed on redemption after the first test ( and the previous three in England )

The answer remains the same

The Black Craps are back. I am predicting a batting collapse this morning setting up a comfortable Engand win.
On the bright side, I am useless at predicting sporting outcomes.

Unless it’s predicting the round in which David Tua is going to knock out Shane Cameron I’m exactly the same.

I'd predict all over midway 2nd session today.
These things usually fall apart quite quickly, even after a mini-fightback, one brings five. A mentally stronger team you'd have a bit of hope that having made England bowl quite a lot of overs then they could cash in. But, they aren't strong anymore.
Edit. Also, looking at overnight scorecard it looks England have managed their bowlers well. Leach taking big workload and nz conveniently giving him and the part timer wickets. Seamers should RIP NZ apart with 2nd new ball.
-
Little Kane becomes the top ever run scorer for NZ.
Might depend a bit on Kane and Nicholls weathering the new ball.
I think Mitch Jr and Blundell have shown the most steel in recent times - and Timmy is in career-best form....
Smart money probably says we get rolled - but, I'm hoping for some real fight!
We're currently only 10 behind and have 7 wickets in hand, so things have definitely been salvaged from worse positions.

Well done KW.
Will all due respect to Rossco who was a hell of a caretaker this record belongs to you alone.
Next target 10,000 !!!!!!!
If you were picking the best NZ cricket team of my lifetime most of the squad would come from the first 14 names on the highest run getters list - plus Bond and Boult - you could extend to 16 names to include Turner and give Macca a free trip somewhere!.

It’s a bit of a sad indictment on our cricket that Vettori is ninth on that list !

while i totally get your point, there is some context
Dan played a lot of tests for a kiwi. You take those lists on cricinfo, the average tests played by our top 50 run scorers is 51. Compare that to Australia, and theirs is 75.
Dan played 112 tests, or more than twice the average of that top 50. For Aus, Langer is at #9 and he played 105.Dan sits high on that list because he shares the record for the most tests for NZ, and managed to average 30 doing it. A few slight tweaks than just toal output (say, averages for those playing more than 20 tests and he plummets down the order (actually so does Langer, fuck Australia have had a lot of successful players)

Yeah he’s on that list through longevity more than anything else although his average in his last few years would have been in the 40s I’m sure. He improved so much as a batsman ( still looked ugly doing it though )

i still remember him as a young fulla getting in to Allan fucking Donald, and looking super goofy while doing it
