Blackadder has officially overtaken Ngatai as the player who gets better by not playing.
And we've created a new award the Frizell 20 good minutes in 5 years and now instant pick.
that sounds more like Akira, Friz probably has 40 minutes to his name
There's no way the Fern anti Ioane brigade would ever hype up Akira - didn't he get MoTM in a test at one stage?
One of the most dominant votes we’ve ever had: https://www.forum.thesilverfern.com/topic/4824/all-blacks-motm-vs-aus-iii
A bunch of 2nds, 3rds etc. Strangely he was actually first equal with J Barrett on the cumulative table that year (an anomaly because hardly anyone played multiple good games)

Yeah but only briefly, looks like he’ll ruin it by actually having to play
No one will ever “out Ngatai” Charlie Ngatai…..
-
If he gets selected, I hope he goes really well.
However, I do find the trust he enjoys from some on here, despite no warrantable form to merit, ironic considering that many of the same posters aim that arrow at Fozzy and his selection team.
-
@gt12 I think there's merit in having hope Blackadder will do well, but yeah, I find it strange to read "we don't need Cane" etc. Although I think he's the right player to receive the call-up, I'm not among the people who've been talking him up. I'm firmly on the "giving him a chance" side, but not with unrealistic expectations.
-
We are quite rudderless at the moment. All part of the grand plan? 🫣

Funny how fast the “no dickheads” policy gets turfed when alternatives are thin and there’s a RWC on the line…

@sparky you cannot ever have a perfect combo with Savea at 8
-
I've a question about Luke Jacobson, does he only look good against lower sides at AB level? I recall him looking good versus minnows but against SA, France, Ireland etc? Maybe it also depends on if they play him at 6 or 8.

-
@Stargazer At least he's available for the QF.

The player admitted that he had committed an act of foul play, but maintained that the red card threshold had not been met and therefore challenged the Foul Play Review Official’s decision that the tackle was “always illegal”.
Having considered all the available evidence, including the application of World Rugby’s Head Contact Process, the submissions by the player and his representative, and all available camera angles and technology, the independent Committee determined that:
i) an act of foul play had occurred;
ii) the player had the opportunity to put himself in a position to complete a legal tackle;
iii) the player was in a dynamic tackling position and, as admitted by the player, he was not sufficiently bent at the waist;
iv) that head contact had occurred and the degree of danger was high;
v) the FPRO’s decision that the tackle was “always illegal” was correct, because of the lack of an attempt to wrap, and therefore mitigation could not be applied in this incident to bring the sanction down from a red card.
On that basis and in considering the sanction, the independent Committee applied World Rugby’s mandatory minimum mid-range entry point for foul play resulting in head contact (six matches). Taking all considerations into account, including acceptance of an element of foul play and an excellent disciplinary record, the independent Committee determined a maximum mitigation of 50 per cent, resulting in a final sanction of three matches to be applied as follows:
New Zealand v Italy, 29 September
New Zealand v Uruguay 5 October
The player will be free to play in the Rugby World Cup 2023 quarter-final (if New Zealand qualify) subject to successful completion of the Coaching Intervention Programme*
*The player intends to apply to take part in the World Rugby Coaching Intervention Programme to substitute the final match of the sanction for a coaching intervention aimed at modifying specific techniques and technical issues that contributed to the foul play subject to successful completion. Further information can be found here.
-
@Stargazer No arguments from me. Fair enough.
-
I'm not surprised, and equally won't be surprised at the inconsistency of sanctions for similar incidents to come.
-
Predictable, and reasonable decision for a stupid, stupid tackle.

yes.
Now how about that French lock, eh!

Is that a good thing? So far in about 60mins of playing time he's contributed something like 5 knock-ons, 27 missed tackles, 43 scrum penalties and a red card.
Oh and a try
-
@nzzp they are consistently inconsistent

The way people are turning on de Groot to me is bizarre. The All Blacks are noticeably better when he and Lomax are on the field. Didn't have his best game vs France obviously, but it got way overblown. Wasn't where we lost the game.
Was his tackle vs Namibia on the poor side? Of course it was. But it also isn't the thuggery shoulder charge some people are trying to make it out to be. He is far better than Ofa, and we should 100% rush him straight back in come the quarters.
-
@frugby yeah, its not like he dove shoulder first at a player laying prone on the ground.....
-
Best thing that could have happened to him. Hopefully he will learn from this and change his tackle technique.
-
I like the look of Blackadder as a bench option that covers all three positions, and will bring huge energy when he gets on the paddock. I think that'd add a lot to the team.

Yeah I think Ireland picked up 12k earlier, seems pretty good support in France, wish I was there
-
Foster 'surprised' by 3 weeks down to 2 decision. Shows what a fucking numpty he is, considering every man and his dog had that as the outcome days ago.

It’s a shame he has to ruin the myth by actually playing really

They lost to Wales at home last year as well
-
it seems Blackadder has added some bulk, Jason Ryan quotes Blackadder below as 118 KG now.
Forwards coach Jason Ryan, for one, is happy to have his former Crusaders charge in place. He knows exactly what he’s getting.
“He’s been good. He’s got into his work with us really well, He hasn’t had full training at intensity yet but he’s got to know the calls, the language. And he’s come in great shape. He’s 118kg, so he’ll be big and physical. He’s done everything he can to put some pressure on.”
-
118kg at 1.9m? Hope he can still get around the field for the time he is on!

That’s Carl Hayman sized.
Luckily normal rules don’t apply to Ethan Blackadder though.

@Chris looool buuuuullshit
Either that or every other stat is vastly understated
I think @Stargazer is right, if EB doesn't immediately kill it, the retribution to the knob-gobbling he's received is going to be severe
-
Jason Ryan quoted it as 118 kg you would think he may know.or are you standing next to Blackadder,Nah I don’t think so I will believe Ryan over you lol.

Yeah 118kg at just under 6 3 is either muscle bound as fuck or fat as fuck. EB is neither.

Blackadder below is 118 kegs, when you add that to Blackadder above, that's some weight!
-
LOL Yep now you are talking Fat
