I last had a RWC Semi just before kick off in the 2019 final. I lost that pretty quickly.

@KiwiMurph All true, but we watch Super Rugby and see the talent at his disposal. It ain’t there. It might be when everyone flies in from Japan/Europe and is fit and healthy, but they’ve played as we would expect them to. They spend from February to October mostly getting slaughtered by NZ teams. Do you think Eddie or anyone else would have done any better since 2019?

Not sure if it’s been mentioned in amongst the where will Rennie end up discussion, but
Rugby Australia has ensured that Rennie cannot coach elsewhere. His contract will be paid out but he will be on “gardening leave” for the remainder of the year.
Source? In other settings it is not uncommon, in order to defray costs, and rather than paying out lump sum equivalent to monetary value of unexpired contract, to pay the monthly amount until new job secured.
For someone like Rennie that might halve the ultimate pay out. -

They went from a coach with a 38% win rate who just lost to Italy and has never coached at a World Cup to a coach with much more international success including success at 4 different World Cups.
I could see Wallabies making a real run at the RWC this year given their side of the draw and Eddie's intimate knowledge of England and Wales.
Eddie knows fuck all about Wales

If Rennie is precluded from coaching, is he precluded from TV work, I wonder.
I hope not

Eddie Jones has warned that “retribution” is a major driver for him as he embarks on a second stint as Australia head coach, suggesting that he will not be speaking to Rugby Football Union officials when the Wallabies next meet England. Jones has been appointed by Rugby Australia on a five-year contract and will oversee the men’s and women’s national teams for a golden period featuring the 2023 World Cup, the 2025 British and Irish Lions tour and a home World Cup in 2027. The 62-year-old, dismissed by the RFU last month following a review into an underwhelming autumn punctuated by losses to Argentina and South Africa, replaces Dave Rennie. Australia could face England as soon as the quarter-final stage of this year’s World Cup in France and, in a wide-ranging interview with the Sydney Morning Herald and Nine News, Jones was asked about the prospect of meeting his former employers. 'I might have a conversation with some of the players' “I’m not thinking about England, I’m thinking about retribution because the most important thing is to get Australia playing really well and consistently well,” he said. “If we happen to meet England on the way, well and good. I might have a conversation with some of the players and not with the administration. Then we’ll get on with the battle. “You could maybe pick it now … the quarter-final [between Australia and England] could be in Marseille. Maybe age helps but once the chapter closes, it closes.” Jones also vowed to be “the fittest 63-year-old coach in the world” and claimed that a Wallabies return was “the furthest thing from his mind” upon being sacked by the RFU. He believes that he will “connect pretty quickly with the Australian rugby community” and hinted that he could use the 2027 World Cup to lure stars from the National Rugby League across codes and into the Wallabies side. Australia lost nine of 14 Test matches in 2022, beginning their year with a 2-1 series loss to Jones and England. Their new head coach starts with a trip to Loftus Versfeld to face the Springboks and is already excited. “What a good way to start off,” Jones said. “South Africa is a side that we know are going to play set-piece to set-piece and kick the ball in the air. It’s almost the opposite of how an Australian team wants to play. We’ll need to be at our best to beat them.”

@Victor-Meldrew either Eddie doesn't know what 'retribution' means, or that is a mis-quote and they've missed a 'not'? Retribution is not getting the Wallabies playing consistently well.

Interesting headline. Didn't read the article.
Dinner date at Gaucho? Pfft, if they were really wooing him they would have treated him to Hawksmoor!

I think this is quite opportunistic of RA and good on them for acting decisively.
If Jones wasnt sacked by England then I am sure Rennie would have taken them through to the world cup. Now that Jones was available early, they probably thought they had to seize the moment.
As for Rennie, He knew it was a very tough job when he signed on and having a win rate of 38% always leaves a head coach vulnerable.

I usually avoid Treason's articles but decided to read this one. He's not wrong about McLennan.
In contrast, McLennan sells people’s souls, providing the price is right. McLennan said in one of the first interviews he gave after the sacking of Rennie: “There’s more of a risk not doing something about it when the opportunity presented itself.
“We stumbled during the spring tour. The world changed when Eddie got let go. The team has made progress but we need to develop a harder edge. There’s no more experienced campaigner out there than Eddie. We had to take advantage of that. He’s ruthless and tough and has that twinkle in his eye. The profile of rugby has gone through the roof already and fans, sponsors and players will react accordingly.”
That last sentence tells you all you need to know about McLennan. He sees Jones as a marketing coup. He sees Jones as a tap dancer with twinkle eyes and twinkle toes and a good line in patter. If you want sponsors, then Eddie’s your man. And there’s nothing McLennan likes more than a good sponsor. -

As i get older, i find more and more comfort in history repeating itself.
My fashionable wife has informed me that superb look for chicks from the 90s of cargo pants and a crop top (best modelled by Gwen Stefani) is on the comeback. With a bit of luck chokers and landing strips are next.
Eddie Jones is once again the coach of the Wallabies, and Rugby Australia is looking to spunk eye-watering amounts of money on backs from Rugby League.

Pommy guy at work was saying he still knows people in the pro ranks back home, who can't praise Eddie enough. Don't believe the beat up about him being unpopular, or words to that effect.
But said work mate, who is a junior coach here now, is conflicted:
On one hand, Jones will help boost Rugby here and get people interested again. That's handy when you're involved in the game.
On the other, the match up against England at RWC has him very nervous...

What match up? If Oz beat Wales they probably wouldnt face England unless both made the final.
If Oz don't beat Wales then they are a lost cause against England
