Lol like rugby is really any fucking better these days
Surely you’re joking?!!
When was the last time you saw 7 rugby players up in a refs face yelling and gesturing at him while he takes a few steps backwards?
Happens multiple times a game in soccer

All sports have their negatives - it is what it is.
Football has diving and referee intimidation
Rugby has ridiculous rules and stoppages.
Cricket tries to do anything not to play in the event of a hint of wet weather.
Basketball has flopping
Etc etc
*laws

Cricket is the best from an officiating POV, compared to other sports there's very little controversy, the last CWC final excepted!!
Nearly every rugby game is centered around the refs these days, it's actually become really tiresome. It's an impossible game to ref, if people want it reffed to the letter then they'll have to put up with even more stoppages.
Soccer is an interesting one, the theatrics are all part of the sport really, players diving for penalties and trying to influence the ref as much as possible to get calls go their way is part of the tactics and the refs know it's coming. It'd take a pretty massive culture change to try and get rid of it from the game, and I'm not convinced everyone would want to see that aspect changed.

There should be warnings given with a swift move to a yellow card to any player yelling at a ref or getting in his face. March the free kick 10m as well, that would have a massive impact for any infringements 30-40m out
Watched certain players from Wales or Ireland recently.
But every nation now actively asks for cards
And then you get what happens after the game. Starting with the losing coach in the presser. Or a coach trying to get an important player off a suspension.
Rugby is not this paragon of virtue that some like to make it out to be. And those that do try are usually bell ends
Soccer is worse for that no doubt. But rugby has it's own diving and ref whinging, and both are getting worse.

@mariner4life the arm flapping at the ref in rugby which has been going on for years is another one I can’t stand.
@voodoo I honestly think that it will take a generation to change in football. If some ref today tried to stamp it out by handing out cards and warnings etc, he would probably be lynched after the match (that’s how bad it is)
-
@No-Quarter but cricket has come some way after an appalling period of LBW calls and caught behinds. There was plenty of player dissent as bowlers walked back to their run ups past an umpire. Or a batter giving death stares after shockers and handing out a few choice words. DRS and reviews have had a significantly positive impact on the game.

Did Harry miss a pen? He's usually so reliable, but he was facing his club captain in Lloris, who's probably faced him more than anyone else
Hoofed it over
Wow that's not his usual play. Nerves
Hoofed it over about 3 goals.
Great effort by Rashford, gets that 6 inches lower and it's going into a defender's head anyway.
What the fuck was the point in bringing on the invisible Sterling before Rashford?
Particularly when Saka was the most threatening player on the pitch.

Terrible coaching from Southgate
Rashford should have had 30 at least

Yeah you already see refs getting pushed and pulled when leaving the pitch over relatively minor decisions, I really don't get why they or the association put up with it.

Agreed. Sara and Henderson also should have stayed on as they were both owning that right side.

It was a plan as cunning as a fox that had just been made Professor of Cunning at the Sorbonne from the French last night.
-
Foul the English repeatedly if they got in the box and hope the Brazilian referee would not give Les Rostbifs a penalty.
-
Hope that the thought of 56 years of hurt would weigh heavily on English minds as they waited to kick the ball from twelve yards.
It worked a treat.

The 'wouldn't happen in rugby' comment was stupid as we have all seen times when things flipped into that territory in passionate moments ('Four more years'?) and certain players out there (look for the green shirts ) are happy to be the ref's faces all the time.
Instead of finger pointing at individual happenings though, take a step back and observe the pervading cultures of the sports.
I admire the skills of football and also how, what is a simple game, generates such rabid fandom. However, if I had a kid involved in the sport I would be doing lots to try to counter the messages they received as part of the game. For me, sports for kids are a great way of them learning life lessons and I just don't like the lessons that are an acceptable part of behaviour in football.
Respect the officials and respect the opposition are still a big part of rugby despite the odd idiot. I can't say the same for football.
Just my opinion.
