ANZAC XV

looking past this just being more "fluff" for a second...could be fun, BUT i would try and make a big deal about the squad selection, like playground rules, coaches taking turns selecting so there would be real debate and compromise with later selections if the obvious ones get picked up first

@Kiwiwomble didn't something like 11 All Blacks turn this down last time? Think they ended up with 2 playing. (no i didnt read article lol)
Anyway conceptually I like it, not so sure how they will get everything to align in reality though.
Might also help mend some trans Ta$man relations

just read it, thats exactly what happened
agreed, almost guaranteed not to happen, just a bit of fun to speculate, not even the best XV, but who would you pick first probably knowing who aussie might pick and what ramifications that would have on future picks etc
Stupid idea, it would be to cobbled together.
...thats kind of the idea, much like the baabaas

Players not being interested in 1989 is very different to now. In 1989 the game wasn't professional
I'm sure this would generate plenty of cash cash. Players would jump at it if the pay was appropriate
Fitting it into the calendar seems like the biggest issue

What would the team look like? This team would be pretty slick.
- De Groot
- Taukei'aho
- Alaalatoa
- Rettalick
- Whitelock
- Valetini
- Hooper
- Savea
- Smith
- Mo'unga
- Koroibete
- Kerevi
- Ioane
- Kellaway
- J Barrett
- Fainga'a
- Slipper
- Lomax
- S Barrett
- Samu
- White (even though I can't stand the little prick)
- B Barrett
- Jordan

Mate if it a Baabaas thing, I no problem, but talking about the best of both team is sounding pretty serious. But anyway we'll see where uit goes

Without reading it.
They all pulled out except one, only Steve McDowell out of the starting All Blacks honoured the commitment.
2 other NZers did then play, but not original selections, or maybe selected only as a reserve in original selection (Botica?). Frano Botica (as a permanent reserve behind Foxy) was deemed not vital enough to deny? . Plus Kieran Crowley who was an ex-All Black, little did we know what would happen in 1 years time and he would again be a current All Black.
Was poor from by NZRFU. Was it a Bledisloe test only 2 weeks later, that was the reason. So, a decision driven by the coaching group (Grizz) most likely rather than the Blazers.

Mark Hinton's team from the below article, a little unfair when he selects an extra player on the bench. Also, who's Jodie?
Marc Hinton’s 2022 Anzac team: Jodie Barrett, Will Jordan, Rieko Ioane, Samu Kerevi, Marika Koroibete, Richie Mo;unga, Aaron Smith: Ardie Savea, Michael Hooper, Rob Valentini, Sam Whitelock 9capt), Brodie Retallick, Tyrel Lomax, Samisoni Taukei’aho, Ethan de Groot. Reserves: Folau Fainga’a, James Slipper, Taniela Tupou, Scott Barrett, Dalton Papalii, Tate McDermott, Beauden Barrett, Anton Lienert-Brown, Andrew Kellaway.

I wouldn’t pick one Australian in a combined ANZAC team.

Would you pick an Aucklander?

I went to that game in 1989. Was pretty shit. Plus I was bitterly disappointed at the lack of ABs.
The Anzac jerseys however were a big success for years afterwards.
I don't mind this concept if they can put together a proper team.

Dude you would have been about 10 years old. Kids that age whinge about everything. I’m not sure I can take this post seriously

Neither. I’d pick two. Kerevi and Hooper.

I was exactly 10 and usually happy as a pig in shįt when at the rugby. FWIW, my granddad was over from NZ and he too said it was a crap game. I recall being mightily pissed off that poor man's John Gallagher, i.e. Kieran Crowley, was playing. JG was my favourite player after MJ.
Fark I'm getting old.
