All Blacks vs Wales

To be fair to Dagg, he doesn't really say Friz is the a "modern-day JK" at all.
He says "“Shannon at six, he is a must,” Dagg told SENZ Mornings.
“We’ve been looking for (and saying), ‘Who’s going to be that Jerome Kaino that comes in and adds that real oomph at the six position,’ and he is our guy.
“He does all the hard work, he carries extremely well, he defends really (well and) he’s another lineout option; he’s a big man so he’s a genuine lineout option there for Sammy Whitelock and Scotty Barrett.”
It's not a completely outrageous comment.

Wow, a headline that doesn’t actually match what is in a quote. Surely not.
-
He's still dead wrong on all counts
-
Do we have the match stats available?
It didn't feel, watching live, that his workrate was particularly outstanding. And it wasn't like he was significantly bending the line with or without the ball, either.
So not sure what Dagg is talking about.

Forget stats, that’s so early 2000s and Eddie Jonesy. It’s just about the vibe now and how many internet forum supporters you have (or don’t have).

Well, he's not really is he?
Let's break it down:
-
We’ve been looking for [someone to] come in and adds that real oomph at the six position,’ - not sure he adds oomph, but he is certainly a tight power 6 rather than an athletic one
-
“He does all the hard work" - true
-
"he carries extremely well" - well he carries straight and hard at least, and he does so repeatedly
-
"he defends really well" - I agree with this
-
"he’s another lineout option" - I agree with this too
He's hardly the 2nd coming of JK, but he has been solid and is a good foil for Savea who plays a looser 8 role than others might

Dagg must have had too many Tui's for breakfast before tuning in.

Probably would have created less of a stir on the Fern if he's not mentioned the great man's name in the same sentence as Frizell

I think you've missed the salient point that shows Dagg's proof positive that you can be a good footy player and still a pork pie short of a picnic.
“We’ve been looking for (and saying), ‘Who’s going to be that Jerome Kaino that comes in and adds that real oomph at the six position,’ and he is our guy.
Certainly drawing a favourable comparison with Kaino. Now admittedly JK struggled when he first came into the AB's but Frizell is in his 5th season with the side and apart from a coupole of outlier performances has shown 5/8 of fuck all.

Looking from another Angle, Dagg did play with Kanio in the AB's just maybe he is better judge than given credit for.
Critics have not had that advantage.
And could Dagg be repeating what he hears out of the AB camp as he is great mates with a lot of the AB's in the camp as he hangs out with a lot of them.Coming from another angle than just calling Dagg an idiot maybe he know more than some people. -

Glad you liked it.

Frizzell is solid in all areas without being spectacular. I don't have a problem with him being there, and yes, I do think that Ioane is a far better player man for man, but Frizzell does do a decent enough job as a workhorse and fits the mould better with the way they want their 6 to play in the tight.
It will be interesting to see what happens when Retallick comes back as I feel that Barrett will move to 6 and I would rather have Ioane on the bench as Frizzell either starts or doesn't play at all imo.
-
@African-Monkey I reckon Frizell, Papalii, Havili, Clarke, Reece are all players that either start or not in the 23.
-
@ACT-Crusader I agree on all except Havili. Havili at least offers utility value (obviously), so depending on what you wanted to do with the backline or if an injury strikes, then Havili becomes a handy option imo if they chucked him there.

Apparently we have a new JC....???
I don't follow this love of Frizzel, he had one above-average game that I recall.

@canefan said in All Blacks vs Wales:
Was I the only one who noticed that Frizell more often than not gets knocked back when he carries the ball up? Or did I miss a bunch of dominant carries?
I'm happy to agree that SF is in plenty of dominant tackles. Just not as the tackler.
