The first thing that came to my mind was Welshman Jim Mills stomping on Kiwi John Greengrass's head in a 1975 League test.

Was it Ashworth on JPR? That was less than ordinary.

    Richard Loe was a grub.

    1. Trying to scratch out Greg Cooper's eyes in a NPC game

    2. Breaking Paul Carozza's nose in a Bled test

    Snap

Err ... you realise that was it your own post you were quoting?

@Tim I did not know this incident so searched for video without success, but found this instead of a french ref taking out a spectator who head butted him!

    That was brilliant !

I haven't seen anything to cap the Keane incident yet. A deliberate attempt to permanently maim someone, successfully ending their career. That's next-level cuntiness.

Who was the proper mental English lad who very deliberately bent that guys arm around a ruck?

    Fuuuuck.
But that's more a powerbomb, than a DDT... just saying.
I've heard. Not that I'd ever deign to actually attend a WrestleMania, or nothing.

@Tim after the initial shock of the tackle my thoughts went to how light weight all the players look compared to modern players.

Some of the old league spear tackles were shockers.

@Nepia I was disappointed that they didn't say that he "was in disneyland" when he got up and played the ball the wrong way.

    @Daffy-Jaffy

What a bunch of pussies the players were. Should have given that spectator a good shoeing rather than leave it to the Ref.

    Calum Clarke. Pure shithouse.

@canefan said in Worst Thing You've Seen On a Sports Pitch:

Colin Meads was responsible for more than his fair share of thuggery

He was a hard man enforcer who played on the edge in an era where that was common, but I wouldn't call him a thug who went out to maim people any more than I would Martin Johnson or Willie John. He'd happily punch someone's light out in a confrontation but deliberately kicking a player or eye-gouging was def. not his style.

I don’t recall this incident and it doesn’t sound like Deano, but he was a hard bastard so it is possible.

It was on Frank Bunce and there was nothing hard bastard about it. The UK press didn't remark on it all but then had a collective meltdown when something similar happened to Phil DeGraville on a tour later the same year (by Jamie Joseph IIRC). They even brought in the Chariots of Fire writer to write an inflammatory article about it - yep, he's as shit at sports writing as he is at scripting.

Didn't mean to imply that stamping on someone's head is a hard bastard thing to do, just that Deano was a tough nut and I wouldn't necessarily rule much out.

I still don't recall the incident but have seen it referred to many times. A shithouse thing to do.
