The Bay v Northland
-
Well done Northland, our B team delivered for you! At least we got the necessary bonus point, that's all we needed
and yes I feel dirty, and said I wouldn't but profited off the loss lol
-
@bayimports well done Northland. Casual approach by BOP was costly.
-
losing to a Heartland union is disgraceful...
(you're still my boy TR)
-
@J77 yeah mate we'll take that alright. That was excruciating to watch - we looked nervy and bumbling in that second half, but massive ups to Dan for making that clutch kick.
We live to fight another day. I guess the fact that Hawkes Bay are as desperate for a win as Ta$man is good for Northland. The way we've played the last few weeks, that Manawatu game is no given. Well done though lads, you got the win.
-
@Nepia well it is rather concerning I now need to cheer for your team...I guess I can pretend it's the Kamo Magpies who also wear black and white....
Man we make hard work of it, but hey, an ugly win is an ugly win and we also didn't concede fiddy points for the first time in almost a month...
-
Nice of Ta$man to train our boy Dan Hawkins up for that kick!
One of the commentators mentioned earlier that the first round of play-off games is in-conference. i.e. whomever finishes 4th in our conference has to play Canterbury. If we can't beat Hawkes Bay we might as well let Northland have the fun of going to ChCh!
I presume that's right. Seems a bit odd - is there some logic I'm missing or just the whim of NZ Rugby?

Auckland needs to beat Taranaki or could be overtaken in 3rd.

The latter. I had mentioned this in the NPC thread.
This result also helps Wellington, so Waikato and BOP are playing for a home QF, and will likely play each other the following week too.
-
what other way should it be?
-
I have to say as a neutral, I really enjoyed that game! Mind you I will say again I love this comp, and we keep getting games like this. You know things mightn't always be very high level, but they are good and generally bloody well played.
Good om the Taniwha! -
@mariner4life In most competitions I've watched the logic is 1 plays 4, 2 plays 3 etc across conferences. I.e. In the current table it would be Wellington vs Ta$man, Canterbury vs Otago etc.
That way you likely get some opponents that haven't previously met - and help guard against the distortion of one strong conference, one weak one.
But, NZ Rugby has notoriously fucked up logic in almost all its competitions.

it should be inside your conference until GF time, otherwise what is the point of the conferences?
