they were wins but i dont remember them being particularly good games, won on the back of individual moments of brilliance

Yeah I didn't say wins, but good performances as a team. They were, as mentioned, down to individual genius - The Foster Master Plan

Aren't the vast majority of rugby games scoring moments based on individual bits of genius?
Absolutely you have to set a platform for those to happen and sometimes scoring happens against the run of basic play.
I don't see an issue if doing what we need to in order to create opportunities is the 'master plan'.
Most of the time the proof is in the score. We did enough to create and take more opportunities than the opposition.
The big problem is when we don't do enough or rely totally on opposition unforced errors.
I don't think in that run of games we simply relied on the other team being pants. We forced enough errors from them. -

other teams might spend time building phases, working their way up field and yes....the perfect dummy or skip pass puts someone over the line
We try and do our moment of brilliance inside out own half and strike from anywhere without the graft to put them in a position where it is more likely to work

So to take those games.
Test 1 against Oz at EP - ABs worked for territory early on and pressured oz for 3 penalties then the first try was after a lineout drive and successive close in drives at the line. No fancy play there. 2nd try was an intercept special taking advantage of an Oz shit pass. I'll admit that it was a risk/reward thing but the pass was there for the taking so risk wasn't huge. 3rd try, sustained pressure in the Oz 22........I wont go on. To me it was a game where we pressured Australia in territory and to make errors which we capitalised on.
Second test. Yep, we got a lucky early break with an intercept pass for Rieko to run away. Oz actually had us under pressure in that instance but hey, I'm not going to complain if we can take them. 2nd try (Retallick). Simply good passing and running against a poor defence. I would call it doing their job and picking the moment. 3rd try yep, we were in position to score from close because of a shit clearance from Oz. this pattern went on. I will concede that this one was much more us taking advantage of shit play from the opposition, but if they are offering....?
3rd game. - This one is really difficult to judge as it was marred by the (rescinded) Red Card against Jordie. Mixture of the first two in a way. We did do some hard work early for scoreboard pressure through penalties but then had to change a bit because of being down to 14. Oz kept offering us chances to show individual brilliance though, especially through slipping off tackles.
I think when you have the strike abilities that the ABs do you can't criticise them if they are taking advantage of opposition mistakes. I get the point that they shouldn't go into games relying on that to happen but mistakes can be forced through the scoreboard and also at any part of the field.
Where we trip up is when the opposition play an accurate game and, not only don't make errors but don't allow us to pressure them either by fronting up. That's where we need to find the something else and stand up to the 'bullies'. Such is rugby.
The irony is that if we do stand up, it forces mistakes and we capitalise then punters say it is all 'individual brilliance' -

World Cups are usually won with the accurate game,Rarely on individual brilliance.It is normally won on accurate set piece,Great defensive structures, good field position through a kicking game and a very low error rate.

Watching the video of the presser in that article makes me wish I knew more about body language. To me Foster looks very secure and confident while Robinson is almost squirming.

I think it is because Foster carried himself with dignity, Robinson, not so much.

My take is that they are won by forcing an inaccurate game from the opposition and having individual and team brilliance to take advantage.
Brilliant moments have often secured or established wins at RWC. You just have to work for them not sit back and wait (which is what we ahve been guilty of)

Los Pumas have come out of the gate in both Tests, so we'll need to get another good start. Despite the score line in their second game against Oz, I felt the ball bounced their way at almost every opportunity. They'll be a threat but if we front like we did against the Boks, we should come out of it with another in the win column.

getting off to a good start is something we need to work on, slow starts in 4 of the last 5 tests, and when you are struggling with timing, cohesion etc, it makes it that much harder to come back from.

With no Ofa or Nepo, it looks unlikely that there will be a change to front row players that played on SA 2.
Just a question on who starts up front. I’d go with the same starters and possibly give Newell a shot at starting in game 2.
Not that o thought he was a genuine chance, but with Tuipoluto’s injury, and Retallick getting the HB shield match, the Scooter, Sam and Vaa’i trio looks locked in. I wouldn’t mind seeing Dickson in there or against the Aussies as I think there is real promise.
