@taniwharugby No doubt about Sami. It's heartening to see Ryan immediately make the switch and a bit mystifying seeing him subbed early.

On Taylor and Coles - we said the same about Kev and Hore and I didn't see anyone who I thought was likely to do better in Super rugby. Be interesting what happens at the next selection waypoint. I guess that's the EOYT?

@voodoo At least if you had me selecting we'd have Bailyn Sullivan.

We've got Ennor or Big Leicester to throw into the centre mix as well, but I'm not recommending it! 🙂

@taniwharugby One thing we can take away from this season.

When Mako rugby is weak, that ABs are weak! 🙂

Yeah strange game , at halftime while I didn’t think we were great , I thought we were tracking ok ,

Could see new things I thought were the new coaches at work , and thought that was a bit satisfying

Then fucked if I know what happened second half , we went back to shambles that more resembled the season so far .

Agree. We certainly weren't great but were doing ok. We need to give this new coaching team a bit more time though. It only the first test with Joe Schmidt fully on board so I will wait at least until the Aussie tests. Which is what NZR should have done

More time? More time than the 3 years of substandard results?

A new coaching team now. This team needs at least a few more games to see if it makes any difference

The most disgusting element of the entire debacle was Perofeta's debut. WTF was the thinking there?

Don't we have a test against Japan later in the year? They will be eager to play us now

I'm not convinced we have hit rock bottom yet. Will group stage exit in France be Fozzie's Magnum opus?

Maybe the problem is that sometimes a third of the playing XV are from two families and neither show a propensity for intelligent play.

The Invitational Baabaas Chequebook XV's dominance has almost perfectly mirrored the ABs decline up until this point where you've now joined the ABs in mediocrity.

I guess, given that DMac is floating around in the background and plays pretty much the same role as Perofeta, I'd have been keen to get out there and become a capped AB while I could.

    Not ideal circumstances.

@Nepia The Mako dominance has almost... we just needed Leon to join the AB coaching team and the mirroring would've been perfect!

I wouldn't voluntarily play both either. But we don't have any other centres, if you take Reiko out.

It's not like the current set-up offers much, so provided they defend adequately they can't really be worse.

I've cracked it - just swap Clarke and Rieko man for man. That way we get Rieko back on the wing where most seem to want him, and we also get a brand new winger/FB-turned-centre to experiment with.

Magic. I really should be selecting this team.

His Dad was a very good centre so that’s a superb idea.

Then again Reikos Dad was a lock so do we give him a go there ?

@Chester-Draws Yeah - I'd agree with most of those changes - but, pairing RTS and Tupaea in the midfield is pretty experimental.

It is experimental. We might lose. Oh, wait…

    Well done Argies.

    ABs very poor.

Most random reffing performance I have seen for some time, well since that Wales v Boks test.

He's simply not up to standard but he wasn't the reason you lost.

    Was a factor.

Take him out and we win.

    Not convinced

Ref wasn't committing the penalties and throwing the ball in shit

Ref invented penalties, for one side and ignored the other side.

It created the scoreboard pressure. And subsequent panic.

Sure we did stupid shit too.

But change that factor and put a proper ref in charge and that result changes.

That's down to the captain, players and coaches not adapting to the ref

Everyone knew he's useless before kick off

NZ did not play the ref, Argentina did

    End of

So you're saying the referee's inadequacies affected the result?

    I agree entirely

The team's inadequacies affected the result much more

Take one factor out and the result changes

Not giving away so many penalties to allow the Pumas to stay in touch?

    Yes.

    That is another different factor.

But then ask yourself were all those penalties legit, or were they the result of an incompetent referee?

I thought a couple were a bit rough on the ABs. But then, your hooker detatched from the maul for his try, so....

I like that the ref was pretty strict on latching player going to deck - and fairly consistent.

    Again... change that factor ...

Or be good enough that a couple of decisions aren't in frame.

I wondered about this at the time. On the replay it looks like ST manages to keep holding on to the player in front despite his shoulders losing contact. I thought as long as physical contact remained they are still bound?

Technically speaking: bound to the shoulder. In practice it is a little looser than that, but that one was barely hand grip on the shorts

Certainly an area of the game that needs cleaning up. If you had to be bound properly, it would make defending mauls easier, as mauls would cease to be mauls 90 % of the time with the 1 hand 'bind' that is so prevalent in today's game.

Possibly no coincidence that the best player all year got this way without his brother there to distract him.

So see ya Akira, Scott and Beauden. It’s been good but time to move on.
