@SidBarret I mentioned the importance of our bomb squad. That frontrow is stronger then the starting one. Kriel the only worry specially with the 6/2 bench.

Based on Saturday, with different ref scrums aren’t going to be critical. But Marx’s interventions buggered AB momentum.

I’d rather have him come on at start than risk ABs finally starting alright and Boks chasing game.

Will Jordan is in doubt for the All Blacks second test against the Springboks at Ellis Park this weekend due to a stomach bug.

    Sport, Rugby

Stomach bug strikes: All Blacks star in doubt for Boks rematch

Stomach bug strikes: All Blacks star in doubt for Boks rematch

He was the leading candidate to start at fullback with Jordie Barrett also in doubt.

Potentially 3 fullbacks down, JB, BB (they should rest him), WJ, does DH have a chance?

@Duluth I got as far as putting in the right steps in preparation. They don't seem to be the right steps though eh, despite how stoked he is with the off pitch performance. Surely that has to become clear?

If they're all ruled out, I think it will be this:

    10 Mo'unga, 15 Perofeta, 23 Havili

@SidBarret Ox will be a huge improvement on Trevor. You can expect more Bokke scrum dominance in test 2. We are very fortunate with our fatties.

Thanks! I hope Perofeta is robust enough. I'd have put Zarn Sullivan on the plane to start with (although maybe the logistics were impossible) but I'm no selector 🙂

I didn't follow the logic at the end of his interview (5:37 on). If you follow the process (and they did, according to him, with really well-structured training camps and the "focus to improve") you get the outcome that you are after...but they didn't.

Straight question: who of squad is actually unavailable?

    BBBR definitely

    Nepo/Ofa/Jack probably

    Jordie possibly

    BB/WJ maybe?

    Others?

Would be good if Allblacks.com made that clear?

They had press releases for those guys that didn't travel and those that are there but are under an injury cloud they will most likely have fitness tests later in the week.

    Springbok team for the weekend

    Springboks_Team.jpg

If Vermeulen is fit, then that is an upgrade on Wiese. Marx is on the bench, but will come on fresh in the second half as the lungs are burning at altitude.

Jesse Kriel on the wing, he'll chase well and he is quick, but I'm not sure he offers the same aerial threat. He'll do a decent job and he covers midfield.

Ox at loosehead is an upgrade on Nyakane.

6:2 split on the bench. More of the same at the weekend

Will we get humped again? I think so. But do we have a chance? Absolutely. I believe we're only one or two passes from gelling enough to win. But it's all too late. At best we can hope for a 50% win ratio over the last 12 tests with 2 of those wins from Italy and the USA. Lose, Foster is out anyway with a 41% ratio but it may just save us the Bledisloe. The good news, we have Argentina at home.

I'll say this again. As bad as we were, SA beat us by two gift tries. They may have stepped up in other ways if those opportunities weren't presented but despite their dominance, we're still in the game. At least on the scoreboard. If that error rate is reduced substantially, we may just be able to keep in the game enough to put some pressure on the Boks to make mistakes of their own.

Neither should have Arendse and Mapimpi given the height of out back three but they still made a meal of the high ball for us.

Mapimpi is very good under the high ball. Arendse...plenty has been written on him. Let's just say that his technique is questionable 😉

It will be interesting to see how Pearce refs the high ball contest at the weekend after what happened last weekend. Wouldn't surprise me if WR have had a word with the ref team to clamp down early so there's no repeat.

That's test rugby. Keep your mistakes to a minimum and take a 1 or 2 of the opportunities afforded to you. All about putting the opposition under pressure to see if they will crack.
