Under Ryan, Saders haven't conceded a maul try in five years, of which two were when NZ Super teams were still playing SA ones.
Is that still true? I thought the Blues nabbed one this year down in CHC.
Coventry showed with the Blues that you can improve maul defence significnatly. Crusaders pack have been the benchmark for technique and cohesiveness in that area for years though. I still shudder at the paper thin Blues defence of a few years ago
You know the Bokke will throw mauls at you. Going to be a big tussle if we are switched on, and a bloodbath if we're not.

I've made it pretty clear on here that I don't particularly rate Foster, but I'm really hoping the changes to the coaching group can bring enough fresh ideas into the camp that things start clicking for this team. We're not that far away, we are just trying to do too much in the first half and putting ourselves under too much pressure.
Really looking forward to these 2 matches.

I don't want to sound ungrateful, because any win over SA is a good win. But another showing like we had vs Ireland, where we show little discernable pattern or structure, where we fail to control the breakdown, will not please me even if we manage to sneak a win

Some claim it's not a try from a maul because the last action is Eklund leaving the maul. Plenty of maul tries scored by a hooker end like that. The maul turned clockwise leaving no real defence for the hooker to the left

@Duluth also thought ash dixon had scored one....will have to try and find it
that also seem to be a video of the crusaders trying to sack a maul several times.....

You're probably right. I think the record is an exaggeration.
No one else was keeping this record, the Crusaders were tracking it internally. Eventually they let people like TJ know. How many times did they define a border line case as 'not a maul'?
Of course, they've had excellent maul defence for years and Ryan and people like Whitelock deserve plenty of credit for that.

@antipodean ...i thought i might have been missing something but thought much the same myself, also relies on several missed tackles, make the first one and that dies real quick....hardly a move putting someone in space without a hand laid on them

lol that's not a backline move, that's the exact thing our defense hopes for now. RI draws no one on his run at all. BB beats a piss weak tackle, and for some reason the Bok loosies are napping and corner-flagging. After that it's all support play.
Nice, instinctive try to take advantage of a lapse. But i could see us running that exact play in the last 3 weeks, and BB getting fucking smoked by an Irish loosie and the whole play breaking down.

@mariner4life agreed, but also we seldom had the ball humming at that speed during most of the Irish tests.

That was just absolutely brilliant from Beauden, then good support play after that. As @mariner4life said winning a lineout and chucking it to Beauden isn't a backline move, there's no real deception going on, he just spotted a gap and exploited it with pace and fend. The Irish didn't give him space like that to move and our attack was easily shut down.

I think he was the number one lineout target in one of the Tests last year? Blackadder was in a Test around the same time too
Taylors throwing accuracy has made hitting the back of the lintout difficult this year. I think they've given up on throwing long relatively early
