They could play Jack at 2nd five and persist with Rieko at centre.
given JG is generally a strong defender and organises well, this would be a pairing I'd like to see given a decent shot.
RTS has obvious upsides, with the main drawback in he still has plenty to learn about being back at rugby, which is tough at the top.

@Chris-B said in All Blacks squad - The Rugby Championship:
@FakatavaAllBlack Not for me.
He may end up there, because he's not overly fast for a wing, but centre is a tricky position and I reckon Big Leicester would get cut to pieces at the moment.
so you are saying he may be a centre in a few years? As he is a big guy and I don't see him getting faster on the wing.

Ideally we would send one or two to Europe for a season to accelerate their readiness but we would lose control of them if we that was possible.
We should have bought a club over there a while ago to blood players in the offseason. I can't see it happening for many reasons, not least of which NZR seem convinced that Super NZ is the pinnacle and all other competitions suck. Our insularity hurts us; playing SA AUS and others helps deal with different game plans, and how to travel and win. I think we'll miss them in the medium term (and it's hurting us already)

@KiwiMurph I reckon we might see Jack Goodhue in the midfield - and perhaps Rieko back to the wing.
One of the commentators on SENZ (could have been TJ) was saying that Goodhue's other knee is starting to give him problems now and he wasn't fit for the 3rd test.

Oh crap. Dodgy knees are buggery to fix. Maybe he'd consider loaning his sharp rugby brain?

The AB's haven't been good at keeping us updated about injuries. The media has been shocking at asking questions
Maybe Sotutu has had a niggle too? Keeping fans informed actually releases the pressure around selection calls

We need the experience with Taylor.
I keep seeing stuff like this, but I really can't fathom the reasoning behind it. Why? What is his experience actually doing for us? Because he looks like an overawed newbie out there.

Yeah the reason you have experience is that they react well in tense games, cos they've seen it before an can deal with it. Obviously Taylor can't deal with it, so there is no reason at all to start him

Liam Napier is claiming that De Groot has lost 7 kg.

To me, this hark to experience is killing us. Taylor and Beauds shit the bed, Smith stagnates, Retallick plays like a guy learning the ropes, KT comes on and spends more time on the ground than on his feet, Laulala plays touch, Cane plods around. The mix is completely off.

yeah, some in NZ rugby have a real hard on for the idea of experience...regardless of if that experience is of losing

Even Whitelock, for all the good he does has cost us dearly with a couple of brain explosions.

And a few on here are calling for Dickson to join the ABs. A guy who struggled to get through a game without a brain explosion and time in the naughty chair.

Went alright for the Maori didn't he? 2 games for the landers, but I don't recall seeing it being an issue at other times. It was pretty galling to do the exact same thing on his return from a ban though.

i kind of agree...partially, he has a bit of trouble getting low for a tackle in the past couple of seasons...BUT...he might be worth a shot to see if its something they can teach out of him...so wouldn't throw him into a RWC squad...but maybe for the RC

Yeah I think he may be worth a shot, but we shouldn't be surprised if he gets carded.

Looking at locks, I'd probably plump for MSR to replace Retallick - really similar game style for me and he's worth a look.
Dickson reminds me of that other highlanders lock from about a decade ago, for the life of me can't remember his name - but he came in and did a brilliant job for a season or 2. Hits hard on both sides of the ball - give him a shot.
Gallagher very similar to Dickson but with a longer future, let them fight it out.
Goodhue definitely worth a look over Tuipulotu if he's sticking around.
I'm just not hugely convinced by Vaai at lock, he just seems so lightweight.
