As a digression: under that model, Foster will still keep his job and apparently significant salary, propped up by a former Steamers coach and Tauranga Boys College Deputy Principal to save the day. And Sam Cane - a good Bay of Plenty lad, long time All Blacks servant, and Captain - will be the one thrown under the bus instead. So... @mariner4life ... if you don't feel some blue and yellow tinged outrage brewing by now...
oh i am on board.
The entire panel should have been cut
(sadly i can't keep Sam's job. he needs to do that himself if ever given the chance again)We need to take lessons from the disciplined, consistent messaging of the Auckland TSF crew. Akira could park himself in a deckchair on halfway for the full 80 minutes and they would still challenge our eyesight if we dared mention his workrate.
Cane spent three tests trying to do his job and also the work of our MIA tight five in contact. Meanwhile Ardie scores a try running at centre, gets an unintended break for most of the second test, and then gets all the kudos for 'carrying the team on his back' after the third test.
(Cane might well be cooked after a decade at the top, some serious injuries, and then attempting to carry his tight five, plus a missing colleague in the second test, but if he gets to take the fall while Foster carries on essentially as before...)
Just going by the photo-evidence, they're drinking the wrong beer.
Steinlager is never the right beer though to be fair
Looks about right, piss weak fizz for a piss weak coaching team

@Chris-B Poor Colin Farrell consistently picked as worst AB ever - which I don't think he was.
He was a fan favourite for Akl carving it up from fullback. So he's picked as a running fullback (as a green 21 year old) and gets the ball once in two tests!!!
Ironically IIRC he wasn't a bad kicker for Akl but the AB's decided to use BeeGee (coz that worked well in SA)and Going.
The worse decision was picking Kit - I expect to score more off the field than on it - Fawcett in 76
Story of Colin's selection here...
The impression you get of Kit from McLean's book is that he was a bit of a bumptious youngster, who was not well-liked by the old hands.
I think Christian Cullen might have married his daughter?
Both past of the decade long search post-Karam for a decent fullback.

so, it is after midday on the Wednesday
In a week of massive massive media and online speculation, has there been anything official out of HQ? Even a Labor "announcement about an announcement"?
Other than a poorly thought out bit of social media from one person who only poured fuel on the flames?
Supposedly there's a Board meeting today?
I thought there was a press conference at 3 or 330 this afternoon. That's the money shot if so
it's probably been cancelled last minute without explanation.....

Got to think of the poor CEO who has to face up to the fact he's running NZR into the ground, and the press might (big might, cos they're sti soft) ask him about it
🙊🙉🙈

@Billy-Tell it’s an opinion piece - he can write it as he wishes. Not the words I’d choose but hey ho.
I think the Maori / Pasifika thing is based on a well trodden line that they need to be coached differently … and Foster simply hasn’t got the goods for this.
Just a guess there. I completely disagree with Meldrew here, that it’s racism tho.
Just catching up on this thread. I don't think that Maori and PI are not flourishing under the current set up anymore than anyone else isn't flourishing. The team is has lots of Maori and PI players in a host of positions.
I don't know if it is a dog whistle or it's just Reason being thick as pig shit.

@Chris-B I remember hearing a few stories about Fawcett back when he was my PE teacher. He's had an eventful career since then.
Like many students at Waikato he was my landlord for a time. He was a prick of a landlord but if we wanted stuff done we'd get one of the girls to contact him.

I'm not one of the Auckland crew (I'm the fan of Akira from the provinces crew) but the anti Ioane crew assign him that deck chair every match despite what their eyes and the stats say.
As for Ardie, for the first and the third test he had an average first half and great second half - which just serves to highlight that I'm correct in stating he should be our impact reserve.

Brilliant comms by NZR once again.
New Zealand Rugby’s (NZR) board was expected to meet Wednesday, but it’s understood no such meeting went ahead. TV crews were camped outside NZR headquarters in Wellington on Wednesday morning, before being told by a NZR staffer the board was not meeting to decide All Blacks coach Foster’s fate. It’s understood Foster met with NZR chief executive Mark Robinson on Tuesday, and is unlikely to be given the boot. However, there could be significant changes to the coaching group, with former Ireland coach and All Blacks selector Joe Schmidt potentially coming on board in a caretaker type role.

I would pick him at six every time ahead of Card Magnet Barrett. The deck chair metaphor is mainly admiring the fan defence.
Sam Cane does not get thrown under the bus to save Ferret Foster without at least the BoP Mafia staunchly defending him. Not on my watch

"Mark Reason: The fishheads who are stinking out the All Blacks"
https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/all-blacks/300640271/mark-reason-the-fishheads-who-are-stinking-out-the-all-blacksAnyone else find this type of journalism totally unacceptable
Worse than anything you get in the UK - and that's saying something.
Why?
The dog-whistle implication that the coaching staff are racist for a start.
Comes across as a bloke who was denied the chance of a rant at the expected presser.
Care to share? I skim read through it all and couldn't find anything that seemed like an attack. Most of it just seemed like obvious observations.
Edit: Oh you did. Funny how much different people can read it. I read that as Reason being racist, rather than him saying the coaches are Racist. Reason thinks the brown faces aren't going that good and that they must need special care and attention.

Despite the fact he's one of yours, spit, I am always happy to join in to defend him.

@Billy-Tell you realise "fish heads" is just slang that is (or at least was) commonly used to refer to the board/management etc in rugby?

No I didn’t. But that is what stuff replied to me explaining in part why they let the article through.

i dont remember ever hearing "fish-heads" as a term for board/management in rugby but i also dont think ive ever heard it as any kind of offensive slur
