TV3 reckons Razor is reluctant. Schmidt is the man and the assistants are goneburger
Fuck. Really like to know why.
Because he decides his own career not you?
Thanks Captain Obvious.
I'd like to know the reasons why he didn't want it.
For example, perhaps he wants a longer contract and they are only willing to give him one until the World Cup.
Perhaps they are not willing to give him as much control as he likes etc.Hopefully it's all bullshit unfounded conjecture. I can't bear to see aura destroyed this way

Sheesh fellas I wouldn’t be reading anything into this reporting.
mate, you know thats not how we roll!
So much employment advice though. So much employment advice.
Maybe Razor knows that any losses will result in endless bad quips about his hair on the fern?Yeah what’s up with that ?
He’s one step away from looking like Big Ern McCracken
At least he’s not fat though.

What is he waiting for? Sure the circumstances aren't ideal. But surely he would back himself?
It appears not. They said that Robertson wants the full 4 years before a RWC.
Understandable in principle, but if it's the role you want you take it when you can get it.
In theory sure, but if the job you have dreamed of having doesn’t have the right terms etc, then sometimes it’s just not right.
Not saying that is the case here because it’s all just speculation, but that happens in pro sports and the working world more broadly.
I would say tenure would be a massive negotiation point for any prospective coach. And if we are talking Razor, he has pretty secure employment now, and he would know all too well that Mitch and Deans were turfed after a RWC when there wasn’t a full cycle of prep for them and every appointment or reappointment since has been about the cycle.

If NZRFU feel desperate, Razor should use that leverage to press for tenure until at least 2025

I'm guessing Razor has already been offered a sweet overseas gig.

I'm sure he's been offered them for years. But he always seemed like he was happy to bide his time with the Saders until he could get the ABs job

the optics if he declines AB coaching role, stays with the Crusaders and thrives while the All Blacks fail will be horrific. Opportunities are not always at the right time, or with the conditions you want. Sometimes you just have to grab it and make the best of it. He's got leverage, needs to use it, and should get in and make a visible difference.
I hate RWC cycles. FFS. The devaluing of tests is ongoing in the name of RWC glory that only one side can achieve.
Also, the gods hate the RWC draws for the ABs -

His tests were somehwat tough though. Three each against the World XV and the Lions, and a shedload of Australia, SA thrown in.
Not excusing, but thre aren't many Tier 2 games in there to pad the stats.

It’s in the NZR’s interests to talk up the cost of the severance deal while trying to convince the other candidates to drink from the poisoned chalice. Anyone can see why Robertson would want to tell them to f&^k themselves. They passed over him last time and now come crawling back when Foster has made a hash of everything a little over a year out from a World Cup. The expectations would be massive and would inevitably set him up for a fall, trashing his brand and cutting his market value when the ABs inevitably are knocked out in the semis or quarters next year.
Schmidt, with less to prove and closer to the end of his career, might be willing to be the stopgap, keeping Robertson’s hands clean in the meantime. But I can’t really see that either.
I think the most likely outcome is there will be a couple of human sacrifices in the coaching team. Once those heads are on sticks and more capable assistants are brought in, Foster keeps his job till the WC before being shown the door. Goodnight and good luck.

What capable assistant wants to work with Foster now?
