Any sympathy I might have for Foster is draining away as he starts to approach Warren Gatland level whining

    It's not your team

In that case, no team is anyone's team.

What's revisionist is the claim that it was ever acceptable to lose games irrespective of against who or when. Doesn't matter if it's the RWC or the intervening years. It's ridiculous to claim that AB fans would have happily accepted one or the other.

I know of one AB fan....... 🙂

I don't care if Foster's ABs go on to win the RWC with the kind of dominance that would make the 87 lot jealous.

“It’s about my team,” Foster said.

No it's not. It's primarily about your future employment.

“One of the All Blacks’ big rocks, values, call it whatever you like, that we have is that the team comes first

That's right, which is why you are going to be replaced. Given that are such are team man, I am sure you have no problem with it. Wait!!!!! You are not just trying to protect your job are you?

@Chris said in Foster, Robertson etc:

all my management is hearing is that other people are determining the timelines for what happens in this team.

They are primarily determining the coaching setup.

Ian you are a jammy bugger who got saved by the adults coming in to help you. Looks like your luck may have run out. Suck it up like the good team man that you are.

Be kind of amusing if the delay is that they are about to pull an Australia and sack Foster with Robertson for this world cup cycle.

Ignoring my preference for coach, it would be nice to break the dogma of four year cycles of coaches is sacrosanct. If a coach is failing or under delivering that should be replaced when there is a better option.

Good points but should have done it after Ireland III or Bokke I. Very little time for a new coach to settle in now. Not even the Hawthorn Effect would likely be much use.

agree with the 2nd para 100%

Not sure i would be happy with the first, unless all we are changing is the head coach (and maybe defense, though even that is fraught with danger)

Australia are now in a position where an entirely new coaching group has 5 games to the World Cup to bed in their preferred patterns. That's a tough ask

At least England and Wales have a 6 nations campaign and i imagine a couple of warm up games, and probably a couple of camps.

While i know that the last 3 years means less to success at the World Cup than the next 8, that notion is predicated on some sort of continuity.

I see Hayden Meikle in a paywalled article predicted Joseph & Brown will get the job

It was the ODT SR preview and he mentioned the Crusaders have a distraction coming up when the AB coach is announced and it’s not Robertson. He said people should put money on it being Joseph/Brown now

If rumor it's correct, it was the players who whined that change after SA2 would be too disruptive (not sure if they meant for that season, or for RWC). It was a big part of keeping foster. To me this shows the players, like NZR, are too complacent and comfortable. Business wisdom says after 7 years on your job, you're at you're peak. After it's down hill, this certainly applies to a coaching regime that has essentially been around since 2004, foster since 2012 🤮

So he goofed his quote, silly boy. However, at least he isn't whining that the questions around the abs are a distraction to his crusaders campaign

Good for him for admitting he got it wrong and accepting the need to play a straight bat from now on.

I don't want to throw a keg of beer on the fire but it is increasingly clear to me that Josef Schmidt has an awful lot of sway with the NZR.

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/all-blacks/131345757/kieran-read-urges-nz-rugby-to-name-scott-robertson-as-next-all-blacks-coach-immediately

“Probably the best way forward if we’re going to do it, if we want to look after our best coaches in the country, which Razor (Robertson) certainly is, then you name him, you move on and everyone can focus on supporting Fozzie, because that’s what we need to do this year, get behind him,” the 37-year-old Read said on the Breakdown.

“The way New Zealand rugby are letting things hang at the moment, Fozzie probably doesn’t feel like there’s much support for him.”

“The whole thing hasn’t been handled well,” Read said.

“Really, all of the stuff should be happening behind closed doors.

“It shouldn’t be aired, what both coaches or everyone who’s come out talking. It shouldn’t be happening.

“Hopefully we get to the bottom of it and through it soon.”

But while this is the No 1 topic of conversation amongst rugby fans in New Zealand, Read said it wouldn’t be something bothering the All Blacks players.

“Players don’t want distractions, but to be honest, if I’m coming from a player’s perspective, I think they won’t mind,” he said.

“They won’t care what happens, as long as it gets dealt with in the right way.

“The way it’s being dealt with at the moment, there are distractions everywhere.

“So go in and either name the new coach, or don’t. It’s as simple as that, it’s not going to derail the players if you name the new All Blacks coach next week.”

Read was asked during his Breakdown interview if he felt there was now a disconnection between the All Blacks and NZ Rugby management and he felt there was.

“I’m not sure of the exact ins and outs, I do know there’s that disconnect and you can see it, it’s palpable what’s happening there,” he said.
