Foster, Robertson etc

I'd say more money than NZR were offering, or did he play in the same team as Robinson and didn't want him as a boss?
If NZR have to pay a guy, supposedly 3 or 4 times his annual salary for sacking him in a job that is all about performance and results and this team is achieving neither, then they need to look at the hiring process and thier contracts.
They don’t. That will be total cost. Pay out old guys. Pay new guys
The bit the media miss is that they have to pay someone anyway.
Even if they ignore the new costs it’s what ? Three maybe four salaries for 16 months. Sounds about right -
@chimoaus said in Foster must go:
Maybe this is just a big ruse on Fosters part to get a big payout without having to do the work. Getting fat was all part of the plan.
He has a contract. If I had a contract and it was cancelled I would expect it to be paid out unless there were clauses that said otherwise. No need to defame the guy by inference that he is holding them over the fire.

So 6pm in NZ and still nothing from NZR?
Not sure what you are expecting, unless they’ve changed team naming’s to Monday and no one told us.
When’s the RC squad named?
If it’s about the future of the coach, I’m certainly not expecting anything new today. In terms of media cycle today is the ‘wash up from the game’ day.
I just thought there might be some form of update, even a basic press please stating the review was ongoing.

TV3 reckons Razor is reluctant. Schmidt is the man and the assistants are goneburger
Fuck. Really like to know why.
Because he decides his own career not you?
-
@Crucial yeah forgot about the other fellas too.
That said, still points to a shitty process when they re-signed him off some ok results without putting some tight performance clauses in.
I can understand Razors reluctance, he can see the issues, he knows people will demand/expect immediate results and maybe doesn't think we have the tools to make the immediate changes or his preferred team is unavailable?

What is he waiting for? Sure the circumstances aren't ideal. But surely he would back himself?
It appears not. They said that Robertson wants the full 4 years before a RWC.

Get over it. It would have been extended at the end of the year any. Way to much disruption and Covid to cover his arse then.

Fair enough. He doesn’t want a loss and we aren’t going to win this one. Time to accept that fact.
-
@Crucial fuck off.
No way in a professional organisation he should have been re-signed off his performance, without some expectations around future results, I mean he has guided us to a loss to SA, Ireland, France and 2 more to Ireland since the extension.
And TBH if not for the Reece intercept in test 1, we may well have been done 3 zip.

I was stunned that Newshub said that Feek didn't review well and didn't have the confidence of the players. The scrum has been OK since he took over, so is the least of our worries. Plumtree being in the same category wasn't a surprise, given some of the comments made here. I don't know what that says about Mooar and McLeod who should be the assistant coaches most at risk.
Interesting times.

So we will ride a lame duck coach out of the top 5 world rankings then out of the RWC before the QFs. Or an interim coach who will try to stop the bleeding for 18 months

He needs 4 years to get rid of the bad habits and find new players? Wow. But understandable given our current form.
Ok then, what of the other coaching options? I imagine Joe doesn't want a full ongoing role unless his family situation improved but would he consider a year with an able assistant?
Maybe BOD as tackling coach? (Joke joke, I wish we could get O'Gara). -
Sheesh fellas I wouldn’t be reading anything into this reporting.
This is classic scattergun stuff by media outlets. There’s absolutely no risk for them in speculating on all sorts of things right now because the journos will have read the comments sections on yesterday and todays articles. Scanned online forums and know that fans and the rugby community are wanting this stuff.
I have respect for anyone that wants to pursue a career in journalism, but their methods at this point of the news cycle when there is no news, is not that sophisticated. For example the “sources” about the termination could be another journo who has done some back of an envelope calculation without having seen the contract clauses. But they are loosely based on a couple of 3rd hand things they’ve heard or past reporting on unconfirmed figures to do with an AB coach’s salary.
Plus the speculation on would be replacements, that’s easy stuff - make a couple of calls or send a couple of emails and when no response is given then it’s a “not warm” response.
This all leads to narrative building for the next story when there is actually some news.

Understandable in principle, but if it's the role you want you take it when you can get it.
If they give the role to Schmidt, I'd expect him to ask for more than 13 months. This could get very interesting.

Again, doesn't he have someone he needs looking after? Overseas travel might be problematic.

It's only conjecture at the moment. But we do know Razor refused to work as an assistant coach and wanted top dog or nothing. Perhaps NZR want to take a more hands-on approach or Schmidt as some sort of mentor and baulked?

He does, which is why I used the word 'if'.
I can't see him wanting the job.
Any potential surprise packages? Cotter?
