Foster, Robertson etc

There are now 12 or 13 tests between now and the world cup, aren't there?
That is enough time to give to a new coach to have a chance of putting his own stamp on the team and effecting a culture change.
But it has to be now. Not after SA or the 4N. If Foster is in place still after the 4N, you know that the NZRU have decided to ride it out, because it'll be too late to do anything at that point with only the EOYT and a couple of tests next year available.

remember the Amazon "all or nothing" documentary when Hansen asked should they put Rieko on the left wing instead of Julian Savea in training and fozzie replied " ahh its a dumb idea today".
Rieko went on to rip the lions apart.
Foster is completely and utterly incompetent.

Question, has any AB captain in living memory given up the captaincy? (Not a dig at Cane, just curious).

Foster needs to be given the Red Card first thing on Monday morning.
Why wait?
He might do the honourable thing and figuratively take the whiskey and the revolver to take the decision out of the hands of the idiots above him?

When was the last time a coach of a major team (all sports) resigned without being pushed/fired??
Did Wayne smith resign?

Of course he did, he has both self awareness and honour

From memory it was more he had self-doubts, no?

I wonder if Sam Cane will step down as Captain and that will start something rolling.
I can't see Cane resigning unless he truly feels that he isn't good enough to be the NZ no7. I've not seen any evidence of that.
Read was a shadow of his great self for the last 18 months of his career and didn't step aside.
He's a proud bloke who always gives his all. He'll be hurting and poss.thinking he's let people down. Just wondering if he's thinking of tossing the captain's armband to someone else

Someone said there was an 0900 press conference this morning. Anyone got any sauce?
Also, continuing the theme, autocorrect press went to pies. Go Foster
Press Conference will be for Foster to announce he ate three tubs of ice cream last night.
-
@nzzp well last night I bailed an an AB game at half time, I think I kinda.did that once before.but wasn't a tier 1 opposition and our score was mounting.
That performance last night, well the 40 mins I saw was probably the worst half of rugby from us I can recall for a very long time, if ever.
Our defence.has awful since McLeod took over, our attack is predictable.
We have lost 4 of our last 5 tests, and highly likely we will be 1 from 7 after visiting SA.
Sure the players are the ones out there missing the tackles, dropping the passes etc but these guys haven't become shit since leaving.thier super sides.
So it falls on the coaching team, we lack a clear game plan, or at least one the players can execute, because they look lost.
And as such this is when they start making uncharacteristic errors, due no no clarity around roles, around what they are trying to achieve, this affects confidence too.
Is there a.coaching team that can step in right now should Fozzie do the decent thing? Cos it has to.be a.sweep, not just him.
What time is the press conference?
-
The defence is the area which has looked substandard and I have talked about it before here at length.
I am no rugby tactician at all however it is clear to see that our defense has been too passive and allows a team like Ireland to control a game while making easy metres upfield.
We do not employ a rush defence, which is weird as we know how disruptive it is. We also don’t turn the ball over enough when defending to take advantage of our broken play ability.
The ABs have been praised at times for their defensive work in stopping teams for long period on our goal line and with men off the field.
I don’t think this is the system working, more a case of players scrambling like hell to stay in the game. Which drains them completely. I don’t think it’s them trusting a system to repel attacks.
We had no answer to Ireland intricate attack today. Literally none for a couple of tries.
We are playing outdated rugby and we have been found out big time.
-
@DaGrubster in some ways its easier to defend your line in those situations than further down the park as opposition options are slightly limited too.
Yeah I've wondered for a long time why we haven't used the rush defence: if you can't beat em, join em.
Everything about our game is passive and screams what should we do: what we are doing isn't working but we will keep trying it cos it used to work.
-
@DaGrubster hang on a sec, let's not pretend our attack is anything but pathetic. How were our tries constructed? How did we maintain possession and get ourselves into attacking positions on the field? How did we create overlaps and mismatches?
-
Oh I hear ya. It’s just our defence has been a big bear of mine for a while now!
Our attack being poor is a fairly new phenomenon tbf.
But we do look like we run out of ideas fairly quickly.
There is so much wrong in this side at the moment. Even their haircuts are shit

@Donsteppa said in Will Foster go?:
Mark Robinson do something effective? I suppose there’s a first time for everything, but the odds aren’t great…
Well it's been a week or firsts for the ABs, Robinson will no doubt want in.on that action.

@booboo
Boycotts. NZRU only sees one result these days: $$$.But it will never happen because kiwis are too laid-back and/or think it's unpatriotic or something. Despite the fact we will happily bandwagon sports we start doing well in. Think of this as the reverse of that.
