@KiwiMurph quoted the ARU mouthpiece in Super Rugby 2023:
Crucially, New Zealand appears to have softened its stance towards Australia’s demand for an even split of broadcast revenue, signifying a victory for RA.
I don't understand this: You can sell your part for more than we can, so we want part of your revenue too?

Wasn’t the old version of super rugby largely funded by NZ/Aus getting a cut from the larger broadcasting deal the South Africans had? Super sport maybe? Not sure when that changed. Might be wrong.

Isn't it also a bit like what we want when we play say England at Twickenham. .

I believe that they agreed SANZAR sold the rights and hence benefited as a whole. In the current iteration, RA and NZR are individually selling their rights.

OH! thats what they were advertising at the game last night, we keep seeing this ad roll around the advertising hoarding "returning to melbourne"....but no one could make out the actual logo when i came up...too small and unfamiliar, became a bit of a joke amoungst those around us trying to work out what it was when it came up

@Duluth Is this one of the things Rugby Australia have successfully negotiated with NZR? Why else again in Melbourne? Why not a Super Round in NZ?
especially after this year poor turn out numbers wise
-
@Kiwiwomble Yep, and NZ fans missing out on at least one (home) game they can go to. (I assume there's revenue sharing for the franchises themselves?)
-
@Stargazer what revenue ? certainly not from ticket sales
dont get me wrong, i'll go again...but i wont have to decide until the day
-
@Kiwiwomble Good point. So basically all teams having to sacrifice a home game, also suffer finanical loss because of it!
-
@Stargazer i guess we can just hope they learnt from this year and actually market it..great idea on paper

With more than 30,000 rugby fans attending the first ever Super Round over the ANZAC weekend, SAZAAR CEO Brendan Morris remained confident they can build on it whilst 'building on the lessons of last year.'
“It is fantastic that based on last year’s success we are heading to Melbourne once again for Super Round," Morris believes.
"The concept of having all the matches at one venue, in one city, over a single weekend is a big attraction for the tournament and is appealing to our fans.30,000 isn't that much for an entire weekend with so many games
Last year? He's already living in 2023?
Was it really a success? -
it's a good idea, stop whinging you fuckers
it was hugely affected this year by borders and border wariness. People were really gun shy about booking flights and events even as late as April. ANd fucking forget about Trans- Ta$man
Will it ever be NRL Magic Round? No, of course not. Less games. Less fans. But rugby festivals should be supported at every opportunity.
