Maori All Blacks v Ireland - 1st Match

@ACT-Crusader yeah had faith in Aki scoring at the homecoming and Spud loves a dart at the line.

Just got back from the game.
A couple of general comments looking ahead to the test:
(1) You can see the line speed Ireland bring to defence, but they were often getting penalised (i.e., no.5) for shooting out too early.
(2) Speed of passing from the halfbacks will be so important for the ABs. Weber was quicker but erratic with his passing. TJP was so slow the receiver had little time to catch the ball without an Irish player in their face. It's very obvious why neither are in the ABs.
(3) When Ireland get their short passing game going combined with quick ruck ball they will test the AB defence. -
Good win by the Maori All Blacks tonight.
I was particulally impressed with the Sullivan brothers, I feel like it's a question of when, not if they will be All Black's in the future. Their ability to cover multiple positions will work in their favour aswell going forward.

Excellent watch.
In the conditions some beautiful rugby.
Zarn outstanding but nearly everyone played well. Was especially impressed by Suafoa and IWL.
T Williams looks like a future AB if he can kick on.
I respect Perenara but i'm glad he's not in the ABs.

Love the optimism by the Irish mirror.
Full time! All Blacks 32-17 Ireland
It's full time in Hamilton and that will have been tough to watch for Andy Farrell. The damange was done in the first half ans to Ireland's credit kept their opponents scoreless in the second half.

I thought that Norris was one of the best forwards. His ball-handling/carrying was great in difficult conditions, and his side of the scrum was good. Lomax was terrible, in comparison.

@Machpants Weber actually had us moving forward and got the ball out quicker than I expect from him.
I totally disagree, he was a handbrake. TJ was a noticeable improvement when he came on. Weber was so slow
I can understand the criticism of Weber but if anyone is a handbrake it's TJ. His service is ponderous - he's simply not a good clearer of the ball - everything is so laboured.

Oh, and Aaron Cruden was sitting a few rows behind me.
Did he look match fit?
Maybe not so much after those beers.

The scrum where we shunted them back and the ball went out looked to be all Norris. You see his opposite almost bring him down then he brings it back up and stormed through him on the second shove.

Great result. There are some talented lads in that Maori team. All of them but Zarn, Norris, Harmon, Grace, and Stevenson especially stood out. Bloody hell, how good was Zarn tonight! He was a young J. Barrett alpha without the brain explosions! Grace stopped the Irish on the Maori line twice! Huge!
If any winger goes down in the ABs, Stevenson should be next in line. His skill set is immense. The Chiefs looked better when he was on the field. -

As long as he doesnโt have to pass to his right

That kind of scrum result doesn't happen without your tighthead also doing his job though. Gotta give Lomax some credit there too.

Oh for sure, he definitely wasn't going backwards - but the way it dipped and the strength of Norris to bring it back from the brink of collapse and then take it up a gear with the shove was bloody impressive for a youngster.
