Fantastic, can we add Prinsep, J Savea, Blackwell, Kirifi and Holland himself to that list? It will be interesting who gets that third hooker spot.
Prinsep, J Savea, Blackwell and Kirifi are all signed until the end of the 2023 season. In exceptional circumstances, a player can be released early, especially if he's moving to another NZ franchise, but the most likely scenario is that most of them will still be in the squad in 2023.

Massive down vote.

`But a massive upvote for continued mediocracy.
-
@Higgins hopefully we can say goodbye to that mediocracy at the end of next year. (including Holland)
From loosies to fullback, the Hurricanes look to have plenty of talent. Our weak area is obvious, we need to make some big signings in the tight five to take us to that next level.
-
@Canes4life What about the people that appointed Mr. Holland in the first place and then gave him an extension to his contract? Whilst they are still there there is not much chance of change.
-
@Higgins yeah the board have been an issue for a long time. As mentioned already, we need a complete cleanout of the backroom.
From a coaching and player point of view we've made a good start so far getting rid of Dan Cron, James O'Reilly, Jackson Garden-Bachop, and despite his potential Alex Fidow who didn't develop the way he could have with the right coaching.
-
@Canes4life You still have Darren Larsen.

@gt12 the biggest problem for the Canes is the whole Ardie at 8 thing, we’ve got three outstanding 8s (Flanders, Iose, Laubsher) coming through the system but because we keep playing Ardie there means they will probably all F off at some point. The Canes would be so much stronger playing Ardie where he truely belongs in the 7 jersey but I doubt Holland will ever learn.
And at least from my armchair Kirifi’s form fell off a cliff this season. He was pretty good last year but his impact was down.
Ardie’s situation is not dissimilar to Rodders. Rodders was an openside when he started out. I seem to recall that the Canes moved him to number 8 because of Harding who was a quality openside. Rodders basically played that 7.5 role with 8 on his back.
Got selected as a number 8 for the ABs by Mitchell, got monstered by England in 03 and was basically behind Jerry as the preferred 8. But to his credit he continued to work on his game, put on a bit of muscle and then was back in the side under Henry and the rest is history.
I still hold hope that Savea could be Rodders II - he has the workrate and drive.
-
@ACT-Crusader I feel Ardie is best suited at 7 for the Canes because of the quality we have coming through at 8. We have Devan Flanders, Brayden Iose and Tyler Laubscher who are all young, up and coming number 8s who would complement Ardie nicely if he moved back to 7.
Having Ardie at 8 means we have to fit in Kirifi/Gibson which is a drop in quality when you compare them to the no 8s I've mentioned above.
Ideally a loose trio of 6. Howden 7. Savea and 8. Flanders would be a nice balance, and then having either Brayden Iose or Tyler Laubscher off the bench would be ideal.
Hurricanes success going forward will be determined by how they manage some of their combinations.

He’s played 59 tests to Rodders 62…..he’d better hurry.

Rodders was never a ruck inspector either

I thought O'Reilly went well when he played

@Winger chiefs after Brett Cameron? wouldn't imagine so since they have Ioane, Gatland, Reihana, Trask & D Mac
Agree. But sure the article said Chiefs . Maybe it was Highlanders and Canes. That would make more sense
-
@Winger I think I remember it was the Highlanders and Canes. I know Brett Cameron and J Barrett are good mates, so if that signing keeps Barrett in Wellington, then I'm all for it, even though I think Aiden Morgan's our ten moving forward.
