It was good to see us keeping our powder dry for this one last night. The pricks aren't going to know what hit them.
I see France winning this and us getting knocked out by Ireland.
Downvote!!!
Reckon I'll be there in person for this one
I was at the RWC2007 Quarter Final. Seems to have dulled my appetite for attending RWC games somehow..

I hope so. Otherwise all those recurring nightmares will have been for nothing.

Bold call by Squidge, less jokey jokey more analysis
-
@Machpants There seems to be some bold assumptions in the 10mins I watched. Some corrections: Eddie Jones did not invent quick ruck ball. What he did at Brumbies (apart from inherit Rod Macqueen's team) was play a consistent recycling game and a matrix approach to the field. That is, if the team was in a certain part of the field they'd do "x". Another part they would do "y".
I'm also not sold on the notion playing Italy is a sign of deliberately different shapes on attack as players beat woeful Italian defenders. Quite frankly that comes across as laughable analysis. More likely as the England players beat their opposites, their teammates were caught transitioning it to the phase.
I could be wrong, let's see when they tour here.
-
I always find Squidge's "analysis" pretty average. His presentation is even worse.

Rugby World Cup 2023 Asia/Pacific Play off
Saturday 23 July 2022
Tonga v Asia 1
5:30pm Kick off – local time. -
@Machpants I saw this a few days ago and found
it unconvincing. Eddie Jones invented quick ball -WTF? England have had big problems in the past couple of years with Eddie Jones's blunt man mangement creating waves and since John Mitchell left with the defense.I'm not ruling England out for the RWC, although for reasons that video missed. They are a wealthy union with quality players and a mentality that suits knockout rugby.

@sparky For sure, I don't totally agree with Squidge. But at least it is analysis, rather than the trite shit we get with most media.
He's trying something different and that is to be commended. ITV should hire him before the next RWC. Some of their coverage of the last one was terrible.

Good to see Romania back. They had a decent team for a while and were the big hope expansion wise (Georgia the same)

@Stargazer said in RWC 2023:
Very pleased with this outcome. The basis of the appeal was nonsensical - and the Spanish had been warned before. I have been peripherally involved in some of the eligibility sagas previously and am pleased World Rugby kept to the precedents that others have been ruled on and punished by. Romania suffered badly last time, so I am pleased they now have an opportunity to appear.

Wow. What a 2 legged tie that was.
Well done Chile!
-
My hunch is that it would probably make the final repechage tournament a little less interesting, though.
Would think USA clear favourite for that, probably at expense of Portugal who I would think would have been favourites even over Chile?
But, well this was an upset, so who knows ...

Well done Chile!
Chile will probably get smashed in each and every game at the RWC, but just qualifying already means the world to up-and-coming tier 3 teams and what an experience it will be, playing against some of the best teams in the world!
Argentina is probably the only country in this pool they've ever played against and most likely it was an Argentina XV, not the Pumas.

I'm stoked to see them there, it's always great when a first time qualifier makes it.
They probably will get battered, but it'll still be a massive boost for them. Hopefully the squad will get funding for proper training camps and preparation matches etc. And should be massive for the profile of rugby in Chile

That is what happens these days. The lower T2 nation get pretty good funding, fixtures, camps etc in that world cup year paid and arranged by WR.
The operational side of WR is actually quite good and competent. It's the politics and refereering administration where it gets dire.

Hopefully I won't have to get shitty Spark Sport for this version, tho if Foster's still in charge, am I going to watch?
-
@Machpants Hopefully they will have 50 or 60 fps broadcasts by then, but I wouldn't count on it ...
-
The Chilean 10, Fernandez, looks a fantastic talent.

4k too

@gibbon-rib really looking forward to the Uruguay Namibia and Chile Samoa games.
-
Also this from game 1, at 7:02:
(I can't get it to auto-start at correct point in video ...) -
Chile could be the Ivory Coast of 2023.
They made the 1995 WC and went from strength to strength.
-
-
All todays ABs can only fream on a silver medal, they won't get anything but an ealry exit. Fat useles fluffybunny foster will be in charge, early exit on the cards.

@voodoo yeah he played with a bit of old school edginess. That is a great video because it shows how emotional this game can be (look at the responses in this joint over the last 4 days đŸ˜‰).
Emotional enough to want to throw a ‘consolation’ prize away, but equally emotional to have gratitude when it comes back!

He seems to be polar opposite from his playing days. I could easily watch it without getting dusty, cos I remember him being a right twat. But cool to see he's now rather humble and has humility.
