Yeah - for those who require over-sized pictures and bright colours...

I'm kind of surprised they didn't choose Italy to get a bit of a contest but likely win.
High Reward / Low Risk move if they beat NZ first up it could really take public interest in the tournament to another level like SA beating Aus first up in 1995.
-
How is it possible Italy is in the same pool as ABs again?

Just like Wales Fiji and Australia in the same pool. I think Wales and Fiji have some sort of RWC pool love affair.
-
No AB game in Marseille this time.
-
Exciting first up game then the ABs have weeks of boredom to follow, not great prep for the knock outs. 16 team world cup, thanks.
At least with a squad size of 33 they can do proper internal matches
-
It's all a bit repetitive isn't it?
-
-
Who knew that public tickets have gone on sale?
Two and a half years ahead of Rugby World Cup France 2023, enthusiasm from both French and international fans is evident. Following a presale period in March for the members of the “2023 Family”, the first phase of the general public ticket sale was launched on 6 April. Fans connected in large numbers to the official ticketing platform to obtain ‘City’ and ‘Follow my Team’ packs and a new record was set with up to 4,000 tickets being sold per minute. In total, the 350,000 tickets available were sold within five hours.

Interesting result in the RWC qualifier between Canada and the USA: Canada won 34 - 21 overnight.
The return match will determine who will play Uruguay in two deciding home and away matches for the Americas 1 spot in pool A.
-
They don't play that many home games on the East coast (Newfoundland), so maybe due to covid restrictions?

First Canada win v US since 2013 apparently.
Assume they play reasonably regularly?
-
@booboo To answer your question, and mine.
Returning for the first time to the venue where they suffered a record 56-7 defeat to Canada back in August 2006, the USA went into the RAN 1 play-off as favourites on the back of a 12-match unbeaten run against their neighbours.

i swear to god this is the shit that will make me stop watching international rugby
lots of fans: we play the aussies and south africas too too often...kind of feels like the RC has little meaning, just try again next year
WR: ....lets do the same with the RWC then....

Yeah, nah
Only because Fifa got there first.
It's the mindset that more cricket = better cricket. It really doesn't - part of the joy of the RWC is the 4 year cycle with heartbreak or glory ... 2 years would be just naff and lose it's lustre

First round of qualifiers for Americas 1 and 2 spots done:
USA beat Uruguay 19 - 16
Canada beat Chile 22 - 21Very, very close, so anything still possible with the return games in Montevideo and Valparaíso to be played on 10 October .
-
\
A 34-15 victory over USA in Montevideo sees Los Teros join New Zealand, France and Italy in Pool A. Meanwhile, Canada are eliminated from the qualification process after a 33-24 defeat to Chile.
Uruguay overturned a three-point deficit from the first leg to qualify for Rugby World Cup 2023 as Americas 1.USA will play Chile, home-and-away next year, for the right to go to France 2023 as Americas 2.
Chile kept alive their dream of appearing at the Rugby World Cup for the first time after a historic win over Canada in Valparaiso.
Canada had won the first leg 22-21 but were well beaten by Los Condores in the second tie and fell to a 33-24 defeat, meaning their ever-present tournament record is now at an end. -
Uruguay will play the All Blacks in their RWCfinal pool game on 5th October 2023 at Parc Olympique Lyonnais.
-
I see that Ardron was playing for Canada, along with a couple of other French-based players.

Some of the knockout packages have been released. Managed to pick up 4 tickets for the semi package (ooh err), both semi finals (consecutive nights @ Stade). Tickets didn’t last long …
Individual matches on sale this coming Sept.

Interestingly, current top 4 ranked teams, which I think is correct, although maybe not in that order, are all on the same side of the draw. 2 of those teams won't make it to the semis...
1 South Africa 90.61
2 France 88.88 (+0.33)
3 New Zealand 88.75
4 Ireland 88.22 (+0.13) -

Yeah winner A plays 2nd B, and vice versa. NZ France in A, SA Ireland in B. It's different from what went before, I think.

Thanks.
Prefer they mixed the QFs between pools but it is what it is.

@booboo It is extremely unusual to do that, if matches are played in a close geographical area.
England could not have a better draw - quite possibly with Fiji and Australia in quarters and semis if they scrape past Japan. Poor old France might not even make semis. If NZ progresses, they only have to play Ireland/France and South Africa to make final.
Utterly irresponsible draw made by World Rugby

It's because they do it three fucking years before the cup, unbelievable

After Spain, now also Georgia has qualified for the RWC 2023. They're in pool C with Wales, Australia, Fiji and the winner of the final qualification tournament.
Wales, Australia, Fiji, Georgia. Same 4 teams as 2019 meet in pool play in 2023…

Just feels like Groundhog Day doesn't it? I remain amazed that WR are still too incompetent to seed a year out of the tournament.
TBH apart from the ability to ride the coattails of diplomatic hobnobbing, I really don't care about the RWC anymore. By 2019 I was hoping the All Blacks would do a threepeat so every other country would divert their energy to Making Tests Great Again.
