I still think that de Groot needs to improve his fitness as he was really blowing late in the 1st half.
Agree. I noticed he was slow to get off the ground for a period of time too. He needs to get it sorted.

@Chris-B I agree on Moody. If Ethan Blackadder has a good SRP season, he'll be in the loosie mix as well.
not aimed at Ethan, but it will very hard to break into Test rugby in the loosies next year. He'd have to play the house down and hope for injuries I suspect. Getting experience and combinations will be the focus I suspect
-
@Stargazer dunno, assuming fitness, it would appear Fosters preferred trio is Frizzel, Savea, Cane, its the bench where Ioane is at risk IMO, but cant see them going too far from thier tried and tested (even if some found wanting)
-
@Stargazer i think WE all think the back three is far from settled....but fozzie has shown he can be very slow to change things...so on paper he could arguably be as good as friz/ioane....but all he has to do is say "experience" and they have have a huge headstart
-
I thought their preferred option was Scott Barrett at 6 when both Brodie and Sam are available or have I got that wrong ?
-
@kiwiinmelb if not prefered...definitely more likely than someone new
-
You can almost guarantee there will be further injuries and form fluctuations to add to the drama
guys coming back from injury have got to play the house down in super rugby and put their hand up to show they are up for it , and hope all the cards fall their way ,
You never really know how it will all play out , bit of water to pass under the bridge yet

yes, people on here have short memory it seems..

Personally, I think Barrett, Papali'i, Savea is our best combination for 2023. A.Ioane impact role 20.
Foster will start Cane & have Papali'i 20, leaving no space for Frizzell in the 23 (that's one positive).
-
@kiwi_expat Barrett starting at 6 opens up another bench spot for a loosie.

@Crucial Cane is the past too but wouldn't be a surprise to see him back as well. Foster is loyal to a fault if nothing else.
Papali'i is head & shoulders better than Cane it's not funny. It's obvious to everyone but Ian Foster at this point.
I'm a big Cane fan, but you're right; Dalts is playing better. For the second NH tour in a row we are seeing he can make the step up against quality opposition.
Having Cane out with injury and Big Sam taking responsibility for the captaincy may make it easier for Foster to relegate Cane to the bench next year. We've already seen he was prepared to give Jordie another go at 12 after every man and his dog assured us he was too conservative to do that.

He didn't ditch his flaky assistants, he won't ditch Cane

The ones without a job?

100% agree
-
@Canes4life bit disingenuous to claim there's better players on other planets

He didn't ditch them, he was ordered to. Totally different things. So I'm sure, if it's his job or Cane, Cane will go. Until that point, he's inked in and captain

Foster is conservative and loyal to his people (generally a good thing) but that seems to cloud his judgement. If he makes his mind up he can make the required changes but I can't see that happening either. If it does - not until next season.

My understanding from what he's said in public was Mooar & Plumtree's replacement came from a drains-up with the players after the Ireland debacle and was driven by himself and the players. And he's also been clear he wanted Schmidt as an assistant from Day one and clearly Mooar was not his first choice.
