Would be good to see apprentices again this year. For example, Newell and Lord would do well from exposure.

He's kinda graduated from that rung fella....

and in super has really only played well last couple of seasons,

Huh, you have real Akira blinkers, he was carving up at Super level at least as far back as 2018. He was the Blues MVP that year.

Bullshit maybe 2018, but he hardly carved anything up in 2017, that was when the likes of Buck etc were saying we know he can be great, when he ups his workrate. Isn't 2019 the year he was sitting in the stands chowing down in pies because he struggled to get on the bench, I remember because I got on his wagon thinking he was going to be really good, and it was almost he was trying to prove me wrong, he did very little in super. He carved up at NPC, but not super. He has done that last 2-3 years only really and not consistently, same as test rugby one or two tests he looks like he breaking out and been great, but not really stamped his name in it as yet. I still hope and think he will, he just needs to remember when he has a good one what he does and repeat it. Mate there is no way I against him, like every player with high ability (well NZ ones) I want them to flourish!!

He played every Blues match in 2019 in a year where he admitted he was struggling mentally.

And "maybe 2018" - the Blues decided he was their best player that year and you're willing to concede maybe.

You're really not doing anything to convince that you don't have Akira blinkers especially when you continually push Frizell's case when there's no argument against him being a flop so far at test level.

Yep I will agree he was best of Blues in 2018, that was not hard as Blues were 2nd the last😛 , but realistically I not anti Akira as you say, just disappointed that he doesn't play to potential, and fully believe when he does he could be very very good. I not pushing Frizell's case other than saying he was best 6 early in Super before he got injured, and I don't go along with when he played before he wasn't good, because like Akira players improve. Anyway discussion is getting old hat, we will know when team is named next week by a lot smarter rugby brains than us. I believe firmly that Akira will be in squad by the was regardless of my so called blinkers.
I would add I just been having a beer at golf club where I was suggesting that Akira would be named and was told that I was obviously too much of a Blues fan, as hadn't I seen how poor he was over the years, and I said but yes players do improve. Seems I in the shit from a few people who don't think you have to agree with them 100%

3 of Blues tries on the weekend came from Rieko throwing the final pass - none of which were offloads either (i.e. they weren't rieko trying to make a break, getting caught and then throwing an offload).

I don't even think there would be any discussion would there, Reiko has developed into best 13 we got. As you pointed ouy KM. he has definitely learnt when and how to pass to someone in space,I didn't think he ever really failed at that anyway. His defence is sometime questioned, but he seems pretty capable of showing attackers space and then cutting them down with his pace.

    No power-wing, no thanks.

I’d still prefer Ioane on the wing but it looks as if centre is his gig.

Why on earth would you want the best centre in New Zealand to play on the wing?

His impact on the wing at test level speaks for itself.

I still think ALB / Goodhue is the combo that this coaching staff have really wanted. Ioane on the wing with Jordie at fullback plus A. Nother.

Tana was a pretty good winger too. What a ridiculous argument. Players evolve and he's clearly the best centre in New Zealand. By an order of magnitude.

Instead let's select obviously inferior players and then complain Rieko's at fault for not looking for work because the donkeys inside him can't get him the ball often enough.

See I thought Umaga was a world class winger but an ok midfielder. A better centre than 2nd 5.

Feel free to call me a moron, and I'm perfectly happy to have him at centre (and I've never complained when the ball hasn't gone his way like in some test matches, in fact I think I've highlight when they haven't fed the ball to him), I just think with a fit (and obviously in form) ALB at centre feeding him the ball in space out wide that he's a bloody weapon there as well.

Wouldn't that be Jordan? You'd hope it would be. Also Umaga was a great midfielder, I'm genuinely surprised by how underrated he's becoming in hindsight (although understandable by you Cantabs as you has the machine that was Mark Robinson and I think a few of the Blues fans muddle up the coach with the player 😉 ).

@Nepia ACT is very keen on Sevu.

When ALB is fit, it's worth having a discussion about centre, but right now we should thank our lucky stars Rieko pushed to play there and Leon's big brain OKed it!

Still got some work ons though.

I haven't noticed anything that glaringly obvious this season to make that a required addition to any line selecting him, what have I missed?

@Crucial I'll be surprised if they pick both Christie and Fakatava and I wouldn't if I was Fozzie.

    Why not?

Because neither have played in a big test before. So what happens if we lose the first test AND Christie happens to shit the bed coming off the bench?

Or, we lose the first test AND Nuggie gets injured?

Fozzie's backed into a corner where he's got a must win second test and his fallback is basically the work experience kid.

I reckon he'll take at least one of TJ or Weber, because they've proved they can play at that level.

Pick one of the young guys and give him a run in the third test if we're up (or down) 2-0.

I get the logic but isn’t this thinking what we are critical of Foster about?
Pick the players in form. If that’s Weber then pick Weber. If it’s Christie pick Christie. Fakatava has shown his potential and shows no signs that he will fold if he goes up a level. He needs a 30 minute spell against Ireland to see what we have.

    @Crucial Who is we? 🙂

I don't subscribe to just picking the form players and discarding experience that has yet to run its course.

I don't have any real issues with Fozzie's squad selections to date - I think they've been pretty bang on. A few of his match day XVs haven't been.

If Smith is the no.1 halfback until next year's RWC, surely you want to look at the options for the bench halfback now? Is it Christie? Is it Fakatava? Or TJP/Weber? One of TJP or Weber can play Ireland for the Māori so I would hope that these 3 tests are used for that purpose. Otherwise, it's really only the Argentinean tests where the squad tends to be rotated.
