To be honest, it won't surprise me if Ennor makes the squad. Personally, I'd pick Bailyn Sullivan over him, but we are very thin on specialist centres with ALB injured. Rieko and...???
Hopefully Sullivan's injury isn't too serious as he would be the closest to a like-for-like replacement for Ioane. If Rieko got injured they would need to be confident in his replacement, and I don't think Ennor is that player.
There is the opportunity to select a few fringe AB midfieIders in the Māori team to see how they go.
-
@Kiwiwomble Lol. Just like a Womble
-
I really like Sullivan, hope he gets a run this year, seems to have a good rugby brain too.
-
@Chris-B I agree that Ennor will make the squad although his season has been underwhelming. This is more due to Foster making pathetic choices rather than form.
In my opinion, Foster's fascination with the Crusaders needs to stop, Nankivell,Tupaea, RTS/Reiko besides Goodhue are the in form midfield backs. If the Crusaders have one glaring weakness it is their midfield.

That's the big question - who is Fozzie going to trust?
I'd guess the Fern consensus (what there is of it) would probably pick Goodhue, Tupaea, RTS, Rieko and Sullivan.
But, that is very thin on experience - if Rieko does his hammy in Test 1!!!
Even though Dave Havili hasn't been playing particularly well, I suspect he's at least in the frame, because he's been there, so Fozzie's got some trust.

that's an extraordinary thing to read.
-
@mariner4life In what way?
Dave was clearly Fozzie's man for 12 last year - he picked him a dozen times and ran him into the ground.

because he was poor last year at test level. Has been pretty average this year at Super level
But he'll get picked because he's been there before. It's this kind of shit that gets the punters offside.
-
@Chris-B probably what he is saying is that it is extraordinary that Foster still thinks he is a 12 when most of us don’t. I understand your rational for Fosters thinking but that highlights Fosters weakness as a coach for a position he never deserved.
-
@mariner4life It's a tough job being the All Black coach - I guess that's why he gets the big bucks.
Fozzie could have picked Tupaea more last year, but he didn't. Makes you wonder why not.
Dave is far from a cast iron certainty, but they will spend a lot of time picking their midfield, because they have some big problems there - and his name will get mentioned a lot.

Doesn't Razor select him at 12 as well? Must be as dumb as Fozzie.

I'm sure someone else has mentioned it, but that's the last position available in the Crusaders backline. He can't play at fullback as Jordan has a lock on that.
His feet into contact aren't as good as RTS'. His dynamism into contact isn't as good as Tupaea's or Goodhue's. He's not a dominant tackler. He's good at a lot of things and brilliant at Test level at none. His versatility might get him into the squad but he's not a compelling argument to start.
Fozzie will no doubt think differently because he has form for not taking selection risks.

@broughie Compared to us - Fozzie's got to take the heat for any fuck-ups.
Even if he picks the Fern consensus team, if the ABs lose and a few newbies shit the bed - that's his incompetence, not ours - and we will roast him for it!
damn fucking right
you know what, a far more amount of slack would be given with a little more transparency around selection. If Foster communicated with some clarity, and people could see a plan, then there would be a heap more understanding.
I would love to know the selection strategy.
In my mind, you idntify how you want to play, pick the 23 players that will best carry out that plan, then pick the next 13 players that you can swap in to the top 23 with the least disruption (ie like for like)
I doubt that's that situation at the moment. So what is the fucking process? -

@Chris-B I didn’t really care if we lose as long as we are moving in the right direction. It’s not happening under Fozzy though.
To be fair, we haven't seen Fozzie's team this year yet - and me second-guessing what he's thinking is quite a bit different to what he's really thinking.
I think we're making some progress in the right direction. I'm of the opinion that we were probably running out of gas by the time we hit Ireland and France last year, so this series will be a good indicator of whether that's true - or if we've really fallen behind.
I hope we don't lose any more key players in the next couple of weeks.
