@nostrildamus well @mn5 doesn't like the fact I dislike his dad and the utter tripe he writes, so posts links hoping I'll throw him a click.

12 things about the Barrett boys

Dammit, five years since that article and Rattue still hasn't added the third Brownlie brother!

Pretty happy with this team, considering the injuries.
So Big Karl has now leapfrogged Bower at LHP. This was a tight contest between the two, I guess.

Interesting comments by Foz about the bench and picking those who had played the Boks before.

Despite his half lidded eyes makin ghim look pissed, that was the most concise and articulate interview I've heard from him

Jesus there some clueless comments here, not all of them, but these leapt out. More stuff to be up on the changing room walls 😜

This is not the same team that won the World Cup. Let's be very clear on that. They've lost a number of their players who have headed off overseas

    SA freely pick from anywhere

And two years ago, they were playing a lot more open and expansive rugby than this team is showing us this year."

Obviously didn't watch the semi versus Wales

The fullback is fine; Willie le Roux is a very good player

    Was

    https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/rugby-championship-former-all-blacks-coach-laurie-mains-reveals-reasons-behind-springboks-decline

    Is.

'Rock bottom': Former All Blacks coach reveals reason behind Springboks' decline
"Willie le Roux is a very good player"

ā€œWillie le Roux was a very good playerā€ he has been average for quite sometime

oh not arguing with that, I just couldn't find Mains saying that, he blamed the centre, props..

I'm missing your point, he said the Le Roux is not a problem as he is a very good player. Which is utter rubbish, he was def a problem versus the Wallabies - he was responsible for a lot of the stiffled attack

Just watching the last game again and it occurred to me that this squad really doesn’t have much in the way of filler. Just about everyone is either performing or has done so.
There are some obvious rankings among players but even those at third rank are performing well.
Credit is due to the coaching staff and team leaders for what they have created as far as a squad and contest for spots.
We have a hooker that wasn’t even in the proper squad but is now pushing the top spot IMO.
Lomax is looking like he has found his feet. Sotutu has gone from being very average in NPC to playing well.
Even with a lack of play guys are coming in from the training paddock in form.
Whether the tactics etc end up being right is still to be seen but maybe Foster and co. Are doing some stuff right?

I'm amazed to find that Scott Barrett has nearly 50 tests under his belt. And we still think of him as the journeyman.

Yeah that's fair. He's moved past rookie, or apprentice if we're to continue the metaphor, and not progressing to master yet.

Can't wait to see how that loose forward trio works together against a bigger Springbok pack.

    What?

We're NZ. Bokke, Poms, Lions have bigger forward packs by definition.

Ad an aside, has anyone got size, height, weight stats for us so I don't have to look up myself?

@taniwharugby Good article this one, great writer.

    I'm sorry, didn't check writer's name.
My beef with him isn't that he's not a good writer, he just chose to be a troll (and not sure he actually likes rugby union anyway).

Started as the loigue writer iirc

I'm a bit concerned with ALB and Papalii missing and the back 3 selection. Would have preferred Reece to Jordan. And didn't think Pat T had earned a place. Hopefully it motivates him because we have a high energy bench that could run boks off their feet.

I’m interested to know what the concern is with Papali’i not being available. Is there that much of a difference between Paps and Jacobsen? Ardie was always going to be selected given he is captain.

Is it because Jacobsen isn’t on the bench and Blackadder is? I think that’s relative given if things go to plan we will probably only see Blackadder for 10 or 15 max.

    i dont mind it

I'm underwhelmed a bit but I don't know what I would change with no ALB. Can't argue with forwards though.

Whilst still a work in progress, Ioane is the second best centre in the squad, so he has to play there.

I would’ve gone for Reece on the wing, but can’t complain about the other two selected.

Will be interesting if one of our wingers has to go off, will they put Tups on and move Ioane or do they put DMac on and move Jordie. If it’s early in the game I reckon the latter because of experience.

Flakes did well against Boks when Hodge came on by having big boot to drive them back when kicking for territory.

So Jordie for me to stay at 15. I’d bring on Quinn.

I understand none of this post.

After my double take at after seeing that lazy repeat of an ancient stereotype I had a quick squizz. I mean come on, they have two opensides and one that's known for being small!

Wikipedia has Duane at 118, Kolisi at 105 I think, Smith at 95 I think. Ioane at 116 and I stopped after that.

To my mind Papalii is a bit better than Blackadder so we're just a little tiny bit down on the sum of the parts.
