Article on the Wallabies ... I am not sure which Wayne Smith this is, but I agree with all of it
Not The Wayne Smith. He's a really good Ozzie journo

@nostrildamus the criticism of the Australian tactics are fair... in the context of bled 1 and 2. In this game they they tried to play brumbie ball and it could even have worked but for Koriobete crawling, Lolesio missing that sitter and Lolesio missing touch following the red card.
The problem for this Australian side is basically that they are not very good.
They don't have the fire power to score quick tries so they need a whole bunch of things to go right to get points. This was demonstrated by Banks being run down quite easily by Reiko on that breakaway.
Their contact skills aren't great so they can't get quick ball or slow down the all black ball. They are not going turn over ball at the set piece.
I don't see how they fix any of that with tactics

It was Fathers Day and I was 2 bottles deep already, cut me some slack bro...

I have no sympathy and (professionally speaking) wish him all the worse.
In a world where he could have taken on many high-paying coaching jobs, I still don't understand why - as a kiwi - you would choose to coach a team where the key metric would be taking the Bledisloe off us.

If dangerous contact with the head is a red card offence (no matter the intent, nor the outcome), then shouldn't whoever knocked Savea and Codie's heads be carded too? Just cos they weren't out in the open, doesn't mean they aren't dangerous.
The ref probably made the right call on the Barret face kick, but that makes a mockery of the idea that rugby wants to protect player welfare. Rugby only wants to protect the image of player welfare.

... and Hooper's facial cut from Retallick.
The key for me is foreseeability of action. Lifting your sprigs, even in reflex, can directly lead to sprigs in faces. The link to Paolo Odogwu is clear - no intent, but a reckless action. That's what will probably sink JB here.
The other contacts arguably aren't part of reckless actions- tackles gone wrong (Taylor, Savea), or just dynamic running (Retallick). So I can see a differentiator.

I think an example would be BBBR kicking Hooper in the face and opening up a decent gash. If a boot to the face is an automatic red then BBBR can count himself pretty lucky.
Fucken dammit. Too slow.
