They could try playing the matches in the afternoon if they want crowds. Just an idea. GOM. I'd be going if they did.
shit, me too. would jump at the chance. Reckon you'd come close to filling EP if you cut prices a bit, and played at 230pm Saturday. Never happening though - it's a tv product that happens to have a stage audience
Would be interesting to compare the tv ratings for last year's Bleds 1 and 2 played in the afternoon vs this year's Bleds 1 and 2 played at night.

On DMac-maybe with an outside back it is different but if I'd gone to the less physical Japanese competition a year before the RWC I wouldn't fancy my chances breaking back into the side.
Every player is different, but I remember when Rangi went to Japan after the 03 RWC and missed the whole 2004 AB season. Came back for 05 and many thought he wouldn’t make it back into the ABs, but in my opinion that stint away was great for him and he came back a better player. Made it into the ABs for the big Lions series and played very well.
Other players who have had stints overseas have had mixed returns.

Or not in this case re a stage audience.
It is a TV product, sure, but I wonder how many of us watch it completely "live"?
I'm usually delayed by a few hours at least. Out for dinner, cooking dinner, or whatever. 1900 to 1930 is a fucked time to have it on for me. I often watch the next morning. I think that, like most of you, I would be the stereotype (age, gender, etc) for a rugby watcher in NZ and should be the target demographic but we get ignored as fans.
If they want to get new young fans (and players) then they need to address the balance between who watches, when and how they are dictated to by broadcasters.

@act-crusader yes I was thinking of Rangi as the exception (and BBBR as the worry) but if at 10, he could get more experience than in NZ at least in the ABs.. and maybe that is his best position longterm.

Unfortunately you won’t get the Aussie TV audience at 12:30 pm on a Saturday afternoon.

they don't get me at 5pm either, tough time to drop everything and sit on the couch.

Do we get them live anyway? And at 5:30?
Both of the Aussie viewers will be able to record or stream surely?

Yeah, at least that is pub o’clock for most Aussies.

TB audiences can watch when ever they bloody want. Recorded, streaming, whatever. The rugby is better in the afternoon, conditions are better, it's better for families. Night rugby is shit for me. I'll lie on the sofa and watch it but I generally record and watch when it suits me anyway. They shouldn't be catering to a TB audience, but a real one. Everybody has the capability to watch when they want now.
The upcoming Wallabies v Boks in Brisbane is a 3pm Saturday kick off which is great, assuming it goes ahead.

A big crowd last week and a small one this week. The lesson is moving a Test at short notice and playing the same team back to back has an effect on demand.
I was expecting some specials late in the week though
One other issue is Test allocation. I go to almost all 1st class rugby matches at Eden Park since I returned to NZ in 2013. I've seen the Boks once in that time (2013). If there 's one team that's over exposed in this area its the Wallabies

nailed it. Are you going?
surprised there aren't some 'family' specials later on - $200+ is a lot for a casual fan to go. Also, adults start at 14 now for the ABs... which gets even pricier.

And many areas on the sides don't offer junior prices anyway, from what I could see.

Agree with everything else that you said - but the lesson to me is - if you do this, play it at a time that is more accessible to people from out of town, families, kids, enable school groups to go, etc. The people that didn't go last week because it was a different demographic.

would this be the norm if we had a 'national stadium' as proposed several years ago?
Late change of date/venue makes this a bit different. If all big matches were moved to EP you'd have travel packages etc and people making plans weeks out etc
