All Blacks vs Wallabies Bledisloe 1 Eden Park 7th Aug

@mariner4life And yet it seems to be a growing sport everywhere except Aus and NZ. Any perceived malaise with the sport around these parts is because we couldn't sort a root in a brothel.
These two tests a case in point. Two tests at Eden park in a row? Didn't realise it was the only stadium in NZ.
-
@stargazer although some you just know they are doomed to fail, so why does WR not see it?

is it growing?
It can't grow in Australasia because where has it got to go?
-
@taniwharugby Because of the purpose of some of them: player safety. And I doubt they'll agree with you that they are doomed to fail.

The new "rules" are part of trials. They aren't law, yet. Let's hope a few of them disappear in the bin by the end of the year.
Do you know if they have been trialed at lower levels?

The best way World Rugby could ensure player safety is to make amendments that actually increase the amount of time the ball is in play. And a good way to start is penalise teams that fuck around time wasting at restarts and actually make players stay on their feet at rucks.
-
@stargazer they obviously 'see' the game differently to many of us.
-
@mariner4life There is plenty of growth potential in Aus.

Tasmania! Got the paddocks for it (just not sure how they'll fit the extra heads into the front row).

Don't know whether this has already been posted, but here are the referees for this match:
Referee: Paul Williams (NZR)
Assistant Referee 1: Mike Fraser (NZR)
Assistant Referee 2: Brendon Pickerill (NZR)
TMO: Glenn Newman (NZR)Apologies Australia in advance.
Losing excuses don't come much easier. Cheers.

Forget the 20 point headstart, with these new rules the ruck will be a complete lottery dominated by penalties, and the game will have no flow.
Actually you were getting that with the ref appointed, so...

And caterpillar rucks. Fuck them off bigtime.
Kicks of any kind EDIT: need to be closely timed to prevent fucking around, really.

Play him against tier-two opponents and he looks a million dollars, play him against big imposing physical sides and he'll get flattened, time and again.
I guess the England team I saw at Twickenham in 2018 were all midgets then....
he was seriously good on that tour, arguably our best player. You could see, even if he didn't make a break, his pace was giving defenders kittens. And i completely changed my opinions of him as a test player on that tour.
but
injury, and form slide put him back. His play this year probably earned his spot. Problem is, that last performance was a shocker, and his limitations were bought to the fore.
The mitigation is i don't think much of the other options at this stage. JB has just as many limitations to his game. BB is an okay FB, but seems to fuck up backline balance because, from the outside, he still wants to be the 10.
I'm not as sold on Jordan as some. And then we are out of fullbacks. The problem with 5 pro teams is our options to bring through and develop talent are limited.
I really wanted Jordie to make it because I think his long range goalkicking would be a weapon in itself at test match level ,
But you cant pick him on that alone .

It's not, but how is that any different than how England or Wales approach things. With the clusterfuck replacement of Jade Stadium, EP's the largest stadium in NZ. We need to make money too, after last year, and a big gate is a factor in that.

I don't think nextw eek will have that many people there to be honest. I'm not really that excited about Aus 2 weeks in a row - - and at 80 bucks in teh cheap seats, you'd have to really be keen!
-
He's a frustrating player for me in that he's a bit of freak who doesn't really fit well in any position but is just too good a player to leave out.
He's un-selfish with great defence, can tear a team apart and is as brave as fuck. But while he doesn't have brain-farts, too many things he tries at Test level just don't come off and can lose us momentum. TBF, the same criticism can be said of BB at 15 at times.
I'm not convinced by any of the options at 15. Neither BB, JB or DMac give me that solid feeling you got with BFA or Mils. Poss. the best option for me is BB starting at 15 and DMac as a sub. JB just seems to be a bit flaky for me - poss. coz he's been mucked around by Foster.

Probably our 2 best jackals (Savea, Papali'i).
Might be particularly important with the new rule on clearing out jacklers.
As will the strength of DP and AI to clean out legally.
