Van der Flier has to be the best name for an open side in world rugby - he does need to be quick though.

He is quick. And I reckon could be better than O'Brien in time. He disappointed the media when he did his first interview by telling them it was pronounced Fleer. Grandparents came to Ireland in the fifties and settled in south Leinster. -
Ah! I did wonder with the name as to whether was a project player and was, of course, too lazy to research it.

I'd like to say good luck for Saturday but I wouldn't really mean it - but hey, may the best team win.

As long as it's England.

Of course, may the best team win.

But the second best team might..... 😀 -

Kick-off at 20.05 tonight (odd time that - why 5 past?). I have to say I'm not sure who I think will win. To be honest no one team has put their hand up as being on top of their game. Flashes from Wales an England and some resilience from France but that's about it. Hard to call it and also hard to know who i want to win. A nil-nil draw with a good few (non serious) injuries is too much to hope for I s'pose.

Anyway good luck to both and roll on tomorrow.
-

NZ games mostly kick off at 19.35. I figure it's so everyone tunes in on the hour/half hour and songs can be sung (and over here a one minute torture session with Paloma can take place).
-
Yes, worst game so far by a long chalk. (And there's been plenty of competition for that accolade in wks 1 and 2) -

Barnes just made a good decision :gamer: - to not penalise and send someone off for a potential strangle tackle.

This game isn't as bad as sparky and DTW are making out, the scoring is just low. The Canes half of last night's game was more painful and tiresome.
-
It improved in second half, Wales finished strong, at least in terms of pure grunt and effort - some sore bodies out there, they'll be please to have a fortnight before the next test. Barnes reffed it sympathetically for the most part. Could have gone to his pocket for repeated Welsh infringement during that period.of intense French attack in the 3rd quarter, but I think he judged it right.

What about the attacks though? No idea in attack. Rugby supporters in Wales for the 1st time are all in agreement on what a boring game it was. Wayne Barnes has been to blame by a lot of people though for this boring game

Barnes can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear though - hard to facilitate a flowing attacking game when there's little flowing attacking coming from either team.
-

I agree with the consensus, it was a bloody dull game for the most part. The only real excitement was when France were piling on the pressure and in the end got nowt out of it. Bloody good defence from Wales, although France need to have a good look at their attack. Barnes was OK without being stand out, as DoTW says a very sympathetic call on the (non) stranglehold.

I am convinced that Eddy Butler wants to have children with Faletau. It's not just the number of times he mentions him but the sheer reverence that is in his voice. I find him the most biased commentator around. Just awful.
-

Deserved result but boring as batshit.

We shared a brain tonight and it showed. We're not blowing overlaps, because you can't blow something you can't see. Very disappointing.

Still a win is a win.

Ireland to beat England today and the Championship decider is at HQ on the 12th :)
