Surely it's now obvious Iose, Flanders, Love & PUJ should be starting to our coaches?
Hopefully IWL, Scrafton & Bird are back soon. I'd love a IWL & Sangster second row.
The back row must be Flanders, Savea & Iose. Gibson on the bench.
Love, PUJ & Sullivan looked amazing together. Stick with them.
Goosen, Rayasi and Barrett back three.
Bird is out for the Season.IWL out for a while so I have read.
Oh right - well to be honest Bird is probably the weakest between the 3 out, so it could be worse. Is there a time line on IWL & Scrafton?
Scrafton is due back next week I believe.

@canes4life Dare we hope the miracle of a Sangster Scrafton locking combo?
I wouldn’t mind seeing Tosi given a game he could add some impact with tiring players. -
@mikey07 after last nights performance there is plenty of food for thought in terms of selections for next week, I’d start with:
- Rakete-Stones
- Aumua
- Lomax
- Scrafton
- Sangster
- Flanders
- Savea
- Iose
- Booth
- Love
- Rayasi
- Umaga-Jensen
- Sullivan
- Goosen
- Barrett
Pasilio Tosi showed how much of a beast he was in the NPC, if he could have a similar impact like Loni Uhila did back in 2016 then that would be a bonus.
-
@canes4life I like that line up how happy would we be if Holland listened to us and picked it.
-
@canes4life
That's wishful thinking. If fit, Blackwell and Proctor will always be in the starting XV. -

Concerning the midfield, I am surprised that no one has mentioned Bailyn Sullivan. he was the form centre during the NPC. I'd like a combo with 12.PUJ and 13.Sullivan.
I also hope Higgins could get some time on the paddock as he is a very good prospect. He is a strongly built second five, and he could be useful in a position where options are not great.I was wrong when I wrote this a month ago. Proctor is an automatic choice in the midfield, even if there are players who are better than him.

You were bang on with that call - Sullivan looks the goods at 13.
If Proctor is at 13, I reckon he makes that break, but 100% he doesn't make that pass Sullivan did to Ardie.
That was a Conrad Smith pass. Right on the money.

Certainly plenty of talent in this squad: looking forward to seeing Riley Higgins, Harry Godfrey, Cooper Flanders and Peter Lakai in action.
Also interesting to see Logan Henry has been selected even though he's 21.
-
@canes4life Are Flanders & Love younger brothers of Devon & Ruben?

I think Logan is Ruben's brother (he has a brother named Logan who plays rugby).
Cooper is definitely Devon's brother (youngest).

@canes4life @Stockcar86 and myself certainly enjoyed that particular match so thank you for posting it.

@canes4life The last try scorer in that vid, Bethel Leutele-Malasia is also in the Hurricanes U20 squad. The double try scorer for Napier, Ethyn Martin, is already in his second year in the Reds set-up. Jordan Stok should have been in this Hurricanes squad (he's in the HB Academy). And the person who has moved out of the region - and I have no idea whether the Blues/Auckland have picked him up, poached by league - is the best player Napier had that year: Afa Moleli. I really hope he isn't lost to rugby. Some of the good Napier forwards, I have no idea where they are, either.

Next three game. Chiefs next weekend instead of the Bye week. Just good luck that both team had the BYE
Then Crusaders on Saturday 9th (2 tough matches to win) then a midweek Pasifika catch up game on Tuesday.
Then the final NZ pool game against the Highlanders on the 16th
A good result from this will be 2 wins. Three or more a great result

@winger Can't recall the Hurricanes ever losing when allocated the Bye in their fixture list. This could upset that previously unblemished record.
Im surprised how quickly the NZ pool games have been completed. I find the Aussie game a bit boring now (much better when the brumbies and NSW were strong). Hopefully the gap isn't so large this year. Although the Canes still lost one last year
-
Any ideas how to fix the Canes?
I feel like we're the Blues of a few years ago. The board is complete shit and seemingly doesn't care about the fortunes of the club as the issues have been obvious for a long time now.
Lee has good years in 2015 & 2016 then oversaw a shambles of a situation with losing players and the Boyd / Plumtree conflict.
Now we've got a coaching group with IMO one of the better groups of young players we've had, but inconsistent and terrible selections meaning they have no chance to prosper.
Does anyone at the Canes give a shit?
