It's clear that the Umpire made the correct calls by the rules. That doesn't preclude bias and inconsistency in the application of the rules, and if that's happening, it should be called out and addressed.
There is bias for sure, men got more warnings by at least 3-1 in that tournament.

I think it shows that to actually be docked a game, you have to dig yourself a hole and then keep on digging long after you're neck deep. That really annoyed. Serena did not lose a game but having a go at the umpire, she lost it for 3 separate code violations.
-
This matches up with what I have been hearing. Most players in the pro circuit got sick of Seranas antics a looooong time ago.
-
This statement:
"Williams received wide support in her claims after a series of code violations issued by umpire Carlos Ramos saw her attack the man in the chair as she lost the US Open final to Japan's Naomi Osaka in New York last weekend."
Is just not true. On every form of media open to the public I have seen probably a 85/15 split on people calling Serena out on her bullshit. Just because some left leaning MSM outlets ran puff pieces on her doesn't mean she had anything like wide support. This has tainted her image big time.
I saw a similar thing about the cartoon on One News, stating the cartoonist "bad been condemned for his racist depiction of Serena". Again, the vast majority of people had no issue with the cartoon, but they language they use suggests otherwise.
-
@no-quarter thing was in that cartoon, how exactly was it racist?
Cartoon depictions or people are always exaggerated versions, her cartoon was her with big lips (check) frizzy hair (check) big bottom (check)...oh wait, it's cos she is black right?
Cartoons of white folk exaggerating thier same physical traits would be racist too right?
-
@taniwharugby yeah, it's just race baiters searching for things to be outraged about to keep themselves relevant and give themselves a sense of moral superiority.

You're on a hiding to nothing there. If he'd drawn SW looking slimmer and "whiter" he would have been slammed for "whitewashing" her. It's just madness.
At any rate the paper is standing firm, the umpire apparently couldn't give a shit and nobody other than the usual dickheads is buying this whole sexism nonsense. Even in these ridiculous PC times, the idea that someone like SW could be the victim in this scenario is just too much too swallow.
-
@Baron-Silas-Greenback fair to say SW and Sharapova are the 2 most disliked in the woman’s circuit
-
@MajorRage hilarious, they are really flapping about now. So the argument they are making has absolutely no evidence, anywhere, to back it up. But we are just meant to all buy into it because.... feminism?
I've loved the response to all of this. The radical lefties stupid ideas took a big hit.

She still can't let it go. I wonder what she will do with her coach, because his admission that he was coaching inconveniently doesn't fit Serena's narrative
To be fair, neither can I
I remember the time McEnroe defaulted his match vs Mikhail Pernfors at the Aussie Open. It is the only other time I can recall where a player kept winding themselves until breaking point. In the end he broke his racket and that was it. What I don't remember him doing was bitch and moan to the press afterwards that he was victimized. Serena should just shut it and move on
-
The stupid thing here is that many commentators immediately started blurting out crap about how this never happens to men. When it's proven that it does, in fact 3 times as much, you get farking crickets. Any chance of maybe dialing it back or perhaps acknowledging they got it wrong? Of course not. It was never about the facts but about the narrative they wanted to believe and ram down other people's throats.

Her husbands point is valid. But only within the bounds of the hypothetical situation he proposes. The problem is he has no data to back them up.
If men call a ref a "liar" 1000 times and get punished 10, while for every thousand instances of a woman doing the same thing they get punished 20 times that would be sexist and unfair.
But there is no data at all to suggest this and why would there be it seems like an overly dumb thing to keep a record of. Tennis annoys me like this in the same way football does. Adults getting babied when they can't control their emotions. Grow the fuck up accept you're playing shit. Either improve or lose with some fucking dignity.
