Super Rugby Trans Tasman

The competition is a farce. Basically everyone here would accept that the Hurricanes are the worst NZ side in Super Rugby this season. That is not a controversial opinion - after all, we were the only team to not make a final in 2021. However, we just needed Jordie Barrett to kick one penalty goal and we would have come first and hosted the final. In what sort of competition should the worst NZ team be in such a box seat?
What if we won the final? How would I feel about that? Stoked, for sure. However, would there be a ticker-tape parade? Would the kids take a day off school? Would it compare (at all) to 2016? The answer is assuredly no.
It is a fucked competition where you can go 5/5 and not make the final. Of course, the Crusaders do only have themselves to blame. They should have secured more four try bonus points and they should have pumped the Rebels by more. The Highlanders and Blues deserve to be in the final and I hope we do continue to play the Australian teams.
One thing I will say, is that I preferred the one round of Super Rugby TT to another round of Super Rugby Aotearoa. SRA was better but playing each team twice will be enough. The worrying thing is that any Pacific franchise will be a lot less competitive than even the 'Tahs were.
Beautifully put

Fuck me, here we go again. According to the Fern the TT comp was meaningless, but it seems only up to the point where the Saders got eliminated. Then when Sader fans take part in a conversation about how the competition could have been better it gets labelled sour grapes - despite the fact it's been talked about relentlessly by supporters of every team for weeks.
The Fern is generally a good place, but seriously, this Crusader bullshit brings the place down. It's almost as though many of you are becoming the new Cantabs.
Rant over.
I think there is a difference between arguing the the competition needs improving and that the results of it are meaningless.
Can we agree on this? "Super Rugby TT has meaning but it is clearly less than SRA".
I can run with this.

@crazy-horse Well what kind of response do you expect to someone posting that Blues fans are "And also trying to convince themselves that it means something"? In what way is that someone trying to start a conversation?
Look who's packing one now. You've been called out - 100% correctly - and now you're trying to defend your "teacher, he started it!" assertion.

I wonder if all this draw/combining tables of two separate competitions would be discussed if the Crusaders hadn’t missed out. 😝
The Chiefs got a shit draw, but they knew what to do to be successful. They weren’t. Same with the other two teams who didn’t make the final.
I am not a Saders supporter, but we all know they are better than both the Blues and Highlanders.
you sure about that?
https://crusaders.co.nz/latest/news/crusaders-secure-narrow-win-over-the-brumbies-to-open-their-trans-tasman-campaign/Their results against Aussies suggests they are at best comparable
This. This was the utterly ludicrous comment that escalated the conversation. Frank said it was obvious the Crusaders are the best team regardless of who's made this final. Yeah, he's probably correct. At the very least, neither the Blues nor Highlanders have proven they're better, because they haven't beaten them to get to the final. More so, the Blues went 0-2 vs the Crusaders in the competition proper. And NZZP then suggests that the results vs Australian teams suggest "they are at best comparable".
That's gold.

If the Highlanders miraculously manage to win, the canes will have the brilliant honour of being the only team to not appear in a final, as well as the only team to notch up two competition wins against the champs.
Beautiful.
This says something about SRTT. Not quite sure what, but it does.

@nostrildamus said in Super Rugby Trans Ta$man:
@crazy-horse well they did win a game or two. So that doesn't stand.
I think it does. @shark may have not used the word 'farse', but the jist of the post I was referring to was questioning the point of a competition that was going to end up with two NZ finalists anyway. A sentiment that appeared to be shared by quite a few, especially when it became apparent unbeaten teams were probably going to miss the final.

Been travelling, so just getting to this thread now. Wow, some folk have fired up.
Just for charity, my comment about the crusaders is solely relating to SRTT. Crusader's fans can sleep easily that they were the best team in SRA.
In SRTT, though, they haven't been at their best. Nearly lost to the Brumbies, and couldn't get enough points when it mattered against the rebels and force. I don't think it's ludicrous to suggest they weren't playing their best in this competition, and the third place finish kind of confirms that.
The comp was always going to be a drag race, and in the end the blues led start to finish. Highlanders did enough with a very very strong performance away in Canberra, and I don't think get enough credit for that.
Anyway, don't panic Saders fans, the dynasty is intact for another year, despite some hiccups and patchy form.

Wow, some Crusaders fans don't lose well.
Nothing to do with it, and I think you know it.

@nzzp just about every Crusader supporting poster has acknowledged the Saders didn't get the job done. Not sure many are that disturbed at missing out.
Posts in this thread seems to show the opposite is true for a percentage of them.
It's like listenting to a three year old throw toys out of a pram.

Who? I got triggered in the usual way, but that wasn't about the Saders not making the final. I am honestly not that bothered about that. @shark expresses his views in a way that was perhaps designed to get a bite, but it didn't sound sound like throwing his toys out of the pram. He said he is not all that bothered, and his posts earlier in the thread would show that he is consistent in his criticism. Have I missed someone else having a dummy spit?

Surely you see coming and here or the final thread and giving any kind of post about how this doesn’t mean as much or anything or the crusaders were still the best over all can come across like sore losers
Any kind of congrats to the finialists with a caveat are a bit…
Legitimate comments on what a poor structure the whole Comp is might be better placed after the final rather than directly after the crusaders were knocked out

Bad timing, fair enough.

Actually starting to look forward to the final! But then I can't remember when I didn't look forward to a game of rugby in my life!
I know we will hear this and that is wrong with the comp this year, but to be fair covid prevented anything else so it is what it is.
I kond of struggling to decide who I really want to win. I like most people have a soft spot for the Clan, love the way they play, really seem to generally have a very well thought out game plan and players buy into it, so great to watch.
I like how the Blues have come on in the last couple of years, have some bloody good players, and seemingly learning to play a quite intelligent style, ( helped by using young Zarn at 15) so if their loosies can get on top of Clan's, will be fun to watch! -

You're way off base.

@crazy-horse well you know what, you argued so well I will concede the point.

@crazy-horse The point is to see which team is the best at flogging reserve grade sides. Guess it's probably the Blues.
