He's a street ahead for my least favourite captain, I must say. TBH Ponting isn't far behind - both talented as fuck, but could whine.
Very tough choices there. Just saying.
Still, actual, real, proper cricket now has a world champion.

It was a great effort. As a result, I reckon the top Halberg award will go to some random rower who finishes third in the repecharge.

They have to win the Halberg really. The ABs were shit and not much else has happened. You might be right if the Olympics actually happen but this is way bigger.

Lauren Hubbard. Trailblazer.

You bastard.
Have to admit to a chuckle. The lunacy of it appeals to my sense of humour.

Well how good!
A tremendous day for NZ Cricket, a wonderful day for New Zealand.
For me personally there's a couple of reasons why I watch sport, of course there's the love of the game and the enjoyment of watching skilled people do something really well . But there's also a part of it which is just enjoying the triumph of the human spirit.
I watch sport for those moments of enjoyment when perhaps people/teams aren't as talented, or aren't as good but the people who just work a little bit harder, give a little bit more and succeed.
After the true heartbreak of the ODI final I wouldn't have blamed any of them for not being able to get out of bed or succumb to the thinking that "were just not meant to win one". I'm so glad that so many of those people that were there in 2019 on and off the field were there today share and enjoy the moment. Because it's a great story, it's a great moment of a team overcoming adversity and bad luck, of picking themselves up off the floor and succeeding.
It is a true story of the triumph of the human spirit.
I'm immensely proud of this team and the manner in which they won and the values of hard graft, humility and the simply dogged determination to keeping grinding out a result no matter how grim it is. It's just really nice to see the "good guys" win.
Admittedly I'm a new poster and must forewarn that future posts certainly wont be as poetic as this but dammit!! Today is a special day!!
Beautifully written. Welcome aboard.

You must have that reply on constant standby, waiting for me to point out how shit you guys are at the moment …
Just as you have any number of Aussie-bombs ready to drop whenever something remotely shit happens to the great brown land.
Or a plethora of chur-bro-missiles on the launchpad if something Kiwi contributes in the smallest way to anything remotely succesful. -

Virat almost has a full house , Champions Trophy, ODI World Cup and now WTC Final… he’s lost them all as captain.
Just needs the T20 WC to flop in now.

After decades of supporting NZ cricket sides through thick and even thicker these last few years have been revelatory.
So pleased for the team to have a tangible trophy to solidify their reputation as NZ's greatest ever side.
On and off the field they make you proud to be a supporter. They epitomise everything that we like to think is good about the Kiwi psyche. Humble, hard working, sense of humour, determined and clearly a bunch of mates digging deep for each other. Was great to see when the dressing room erupted that the whole squad were all involved.
Sort of Anti-Australians!
Represent much of the best of Kiwi values.
Proud to call them my team!

Went to bed at lunch 11:30pm. Woke up at 3am to Lathams wicket on my IPAD. Watched Kane be given LBW and then waited for the review. At which point I was awake and out of bed too watch the next 2 hours.
Ross Taylor turned the game for me. The loss of Devon, and Ashwin was all over us with Sami bowling really tight. 5 maiden overs and Kane looked afraid to score. Then Rosco hit Ashwin over the top for 4 - that was the tipping point. Next over he hit whomever for 2 fours. Suddenly we were back in the game.
It was tough going after that - and he was dropped at 1st slip around 20 but if one stroke could win a test match, hitting Ashwin over the top for 4 was it.
Soon after that Kohli took Ashwin off searching for wickets. He was the one guy that looked like he could rip through us.
Whatever he does now it was a great bookend innings to a great career.

No, just 3.

@kev agree with your assessment of Ross, in a low scoring game we just needed enough runs off Ashwin to force them to change it up.
That said there were so many clutch moments that we owned when they presented themselves. One thing we haven't mentioned yet is Devon's 54 in the first innings, the highest score of the match. Given the circumstances and his inexperience at the top level, that was just incredible and laid enough of a platform for us to end up with a crucial lead.
It's hard to overstate how good that performance was overall, with so many players standing up. India are class and they seriously came to play; against most other opposition they would have won comfortably. But we were just that little bit better, that little bit more clinical in the big moments, and we ended up finishing on top of them after a really tough mental battle. That was one of the most enthralling tests I've ever watched.
