Admittedly I'm a new poster and must forewarn that future posts certainly wont be as poetic as this but dammit!! Today is a special day!!
Great first post. You have set your own standard and will be booed out of here unless it is maintained. We have expectations now.
Expectations? Yes.
Standards? Not so much.

Oh it's his standard, not ours. That really isn't much of a challenge.

But seriously: if you need to be validated by an Aussie (jeers and hooting from the gallery):
I think it is a fantastic achievement, and a reflection on NZ Cricket's ability to keep together a group of world-class players for a long period. Champion team vs team of champions etc.
Does it make up for the howler at the last CWC in Pommyland? It does not. Neither is it "justice" for that hideous mistake.
But is is well deserved and proved that the Black Caps are a better England than England are with the Duke ball. To get the victory despite the delays shows a significant amount of class, and is a bit of a fuck-you to the Aus/Eng/Ind hegemony that threatened to make everyone else second-tier.
I'm sure there are a bunch of Indian fans out there piping up with a bloody-fuckyou-play-us-on-a-dustbowl with 11 spinners and a bunch of crowds cheering for every block, but they can get fucked.
Choice bro.
So what you're trying to say is we are better then you at Rugby and Cricket now..
This is SUCH a @Virgil post…..

They do say, Virg, that you never forget your first.
It is the second and third that can be the problem, and by four, well....
When it gets to five? Fuck who can remember?

Fuck there’s some absolute legends in that last pic.
It was nice of them to pose with Michael Clarke for a photo too.

He's a street ahead for my least favourite captain, I must say. TBH Ponting isn't far behind - both talented as fuck, but could whine.

Yeah Border and Waugh just had that hard edge which seems to dilute with each successor.
Both of them were so easy to admire.
Then again there’s loads of articles about how “nice guys can finish first” so maybe the Black Caps are starting a revolution.

Very tough choices there. Just saying.
Still, actual, real, proper cricket now has a world champion.

It was a great effort. As a result, I reckon the top Halberg award will go to some random rower who finishes third in the repecharge.

They have to win the Halberg really. The ABs were shit and not much else has happened. You might be right if the Olympics actually happen but this is way bigger.

Lauren Hubbard. Trailblazer.

You bastard.
Have to admit to a chuckle. The lunacy of it appeals to my sense of humour.

You must have that reply on constant standby, waiting for me to point out how shit you guys are at the moment …

Well how good!
A tremendous day for NZ Cricket, a wonderful day for New Zealand.
For me personally there's a couple of reasons why I watch sport, of course there's the love of the game and the enjoyment of watching skilled people do something really well . But there's also a part of it which is just enjoying the triumph of the human spirit.
I watch sport for those moments of enjoyment when perhaps people/teams aren't as talented, or aren't as good but the people who just work a little bit harder, give a little bit more and succeed.
After the true heartbreak of the ODI final I wouldn't have blamed any of them for not being able to get out of bed or succumb to the thinking that "were just not meant to win one". I'm so glad that so many of those people that were there in 2019 on and off the field were there today share and enjoy the moment. Because it's a great story, it's a great moment of a team overcoming adversity and bad luck, of picking themselves up off the floor and succeeding.
It is a true story of the triumph of the human spirit.
I'm immensely proud of this team and the manner in which they won and the values of hard graft, humility and the simply dogged determination to keeping grinding out a result no matter how grim it is. It's just really nice to see the "good guys" win.
Admittedly I'm a new poster and must forewarn that future posts certainly wont be as poetic as this but dammit!! Today is a special day!!
Beautifully written. Welcome aboard.

Just as you have any number of Aussie-bombs ready to drop whenever something remotely shit happens to the great brown land.
Or a plethora of chur-bro-missiles on the launchpad if something Kiwi contributes in the smallest way to anything remotely succesful. -
