Klitschko, Fury, Parker, Takam & Joshua

Yep, your point about the hype still stands.

I could be wrong but I don't remember the same level when Tua was in the same position but nowadays it's rife down to the "this guy got in a fight with a bouncer once, he could really trouble SBW" chumps who took on everyones favourite dual code sportsman.
-

Apparently Takam challenged JP twice before (last year?) and they knocked him back as they didn't think he was ready...Barry was on the radio this morning, didn't sound as confident as you expect from boxing

Not sure what to make of Barry. I guess it depends whether or not you empathise with Tua or not. Still he beat Evander Holyfield as an amateur back in the day so knows his shit.....

( even though the "beating" involved Holyfield knocking him down after the bell and being disqualified )
-

Everyone talking about the JP hype, but checking out that BoxRec site I think there is a fair bit of hype on Takam as well. His last bout went the distance against a 42 year old journeyman who has never fought anyone of note in 70 match ups.

At least he looks in good condition and here to win, so the fight should be a good challenge but maybe there is a good reason why the experts are picking JP.
-

The Barry bros have done great things for local up and coming amateurs for years down here.

That's hardly the extent of his legacy.
-

No doubt. For a kiwi to compete against someone like Holyfield is a hell of an achievement but the Tua fallout upset quite a few people.
-

It did, and to be honest I don't know what happened there.

My point was that Barry has lived and breathed boxing like very few do in this country.

He's guided countless amateur fighters to national championships and beyond.

He also did great things while managing/ training Maselino Masoe and Shumernov. (both world champions)

If there is an up and coming fighter anywhere in the south, their first point of call would be the Barry Brothers gym.
-
He did well to get silver ,,but have you ever watched that fight against Holyfield ? One of the luckiest wins you could ever see .

Holyfield was completely dominating and was controversely disqualified . -

Totally, but for a kiwi to get to the point of even getting in the ring with Holyfield is huge.
-

No doubt Barry was getting pumped, but Holyfield had been warned 6 times during the fight for punching after the referee had yelled "break"

It should be noted that after being named the winner, Barry held up Holyfields hand to show who had really won the fight.
-
Yeah I wasn't trying to take anything away from him , but measured in pure ability , that was a very lucky silver medal.

On Takam , dont be fooled this isn't a huge challenge , he is so far in front of the other fighters Joseph has fought it's not funny .

Joe has basically been fighting chumps that don't hit back , Takam has the full range of punches high work rate, and goes the distance .

if Joeseph blows him away his profile goes to a completly new level internationally -

I just don't get how that equates to his recent fights.
-
You mean the loss ? That was a brutal fight , voted the heavyweight fight of the year in 2014
-

This is a big step up for JP but he is as ready as he'll ever be.

I get annoyed about people complaining about the standard of fighters he has fought on his way up- everyone does it Mike Tyson fought the same types of bouncers and taxi drivers, Tua as well. Its just the process, build a win KO ratio to make him financially promotional.

If he wins this well we won't see him fighting again in NZ I hope because he should be in UK / US making the big $.

He comes across as a top bloke , dedicated and focused .... win lose or draw I'm a supporter
-

No, his last fight was 8 rounds against this bum and could only get a decision.

If you wanna watch that fight it's on you tube in full.

The braziliian spent most of the fight trying not to get hurt, so no suprise he didnt knock him out.

I've watched a few of Takams fights over the last 3-4 weeks getting ready for this, likes to keep his hands down by his side, leaving his head exposed. Parkers got great fast hands and will be looking to exploit this.
-
