Klitschko, Fury, Parker, Takam & Joshua

Parker is not ready for anybody in the top 10 , Hell im not even sure he is ready for anybody in the top 20.

-

A massive step backwards. The guy he fought was a bum and no way should this have gone as long as it did. The conditions were probably a bit hot but a lot of Parkers punches lacked power and looked like slaps.

I'd hold him back a while. I was wrong based on this effort. Joshua would eat him alive.
-

$40 for a crap regional card is just unjustifiable. The reality is, these cards are free-to-air quality. I just don't understand people who are willing to pay for it.

Seems to me like boxing was in its death throes, in terms of it being a main stream interest, before Duco stepped it up. For all the disappointment about midgets and celebrities getting in the ring, boxing purists would still do well to remember that.

But yep, I agree that $40 for cards like that is terrible value.
-
I've only seen the highlights reel but that "bum" was able to take a hit. To get rocked by body shots like he did doesn't show any lack of power by JP.
Pleasing positive is that Parkers hand speed is still very good after 8 rounds.
The bum had some good training and tactics. Looked to be using his wide frame as a defence and wasn't presenting much of a target (head wise).
The shit talk from Barry, calling out Joshua etc, is all part of the longer term tactic of positioning Parker. They know that even if Joshua's camp said OK (which they won't ) it wouldn't happen for a while. -

That bum never in his entire career has made it past the 6st round of a fight. He has fought some very decidedly average boxers and got owned. The truth is Bergman was gassed and Parker couldnt take him out. BAD BAD BAD - Kevin Barry will be panicked about that fight make no mistake, Parker looked in every sense of the heavyweight boxing world terrible.

Lonergan calling out Joshua afterwards is a JOKE. Joshua would of clean taken that guy Parker just fought in under a minute. Parker is nowhere near as good as we have been lead to believe. He sticks his chin out far too much for a heavy weight and has such poor footwork that he wouldn't trouble anybody currently positioned at the top.

Nobody wants to fight Parker because he holds no value as a boxer currently, Nobody is scared of him. Reality is there is nobody on Parkers resume he has fought that is worth a dam in the boxing world to enable him to attract a good fight and im not sure he is ready or could handle one.

Duco are just riding him to PPV in NZ and calling it the road to the title, That is why his next fight will be in Christchurch in April against another no name for $39.95 - Lets give it to Tua he fought his career out in the the USA among the real deal of the heavyweight division. Parker should be in the USA fighting or Europe. Duco have no money or clout to make it happen, that's why we are being lied to about Parker. Enjoy you deep fried BK chicken chips at BK!
-

What a load of tripe and hyperbole. Are you sure you aren't a promoter yourself?

You seem to have a real chip on your shoulder about Parker and Duco. Fair enough for Duco, they are being dickheads at times, but it is a dickheads game. While Barry and Lonergan may be the mouthpieces talking things up, I think it would also pay to remember that a very astute sporting administrator is running things overall.

Parker holds no value? Right. He has ranking. Ranking holds value. Where are all the guys wanting to break into the top 10 that aren't scared of him? I had a listen to the commercial guy for Duco on the radio a while back and he laid out all the approaches they had been making, to guys ranked above and below. The ones above don't want to risk their position and the ones below see him as too hard.

Joshua in under a minute? I'll take that one as an over exaggeration.

If you don't want to follow this kids attempts to follow his dreams then don't. No one is forcing you to. He will learn things and make mistakes along the way for sure. Respected boxing analysts seem to rate him much much higher than you do and can see something good there. No, he isn't ready yet for a title shot, but he is very young as far as heavyweights go and has a lot to experience. It is possible a fast track attempt will come up and he may have a shot at it too early. I'm sure you are lining yourself up for a Ratpoo like told you so' post when that happens.

Personally I'm enjoying watching this talented kid try and make his way. He has talent and I hope he gets where he wants to.

As for his record so far. Go and check Fury's record at the same point.
-

dont the Leaguies say Origin is the greatest show on earth?

-

As it was free-to-air in Oz (well on Fox but not pay-per-view) I watched quite a few of the fights. Some of them were bloody entertaining because most of the undercard guys all had good chins it seems (or no power in their punches).

They did weirdly have a corporate fight before the main event. But that was brilliant for the dude from Palmy who basically lead with his head the entire time.

I had a fun night watching it but ... there's no way I would have paid cash dollars for it.
-

For starters, I do think Parker has talent and ability but it is nowhere near developed as has been made out and certainly if he was to step into the ring with either Wilder or Joshua let alone a David Haye he would get knocked out. Duco can lie all they want and you can believe it, Nobody wants to fight Parker because he currently has no value taht is FACT, they are trying to call out fighters via the media to garner public and media interest around Parker but the level of fighter he has fought so far are so underwhelming nobody half decent will want to fight him. Has Parker fought anybody in the top 20 yet? - NO - Then how the hell can you rate him in the top 10 - WHAT A JOKE!

You talk about ranking, the only reason Parker is ranked top 10 is via activity nothing else!. HE has thought absolute bums with no track records. Do you think talent got him there? if that was the case he would be invited to main fight cards in the USA and Europe like Tua was. Its not happening. He has no media attraction except here in New Zealand.

Yes Joshua would of ripped Bergman apart in the 1st round because thats what Joshua does, I heard in training that Wilder was constantly knocking Bergman down. Bergman had nothing left in the tank vs Parker, that's why he quit. Certainly not Parker's power - Very worrying.

Do you know who Parkers immediate Belt target is if they can get it - who do Duco keep bringing up - its Martin - the one guy nobody thinks deserves to hold a belt. Why? because he is probably the only one Parker would have a legit chance against within the next 18 months. Ask yourself why is Parkers next fight in Christchurch? - why? if he is the unbelievable prospect.

You mention Parker is rated by Boxing Analysts - could you point me to any articles, interviews from anybody with a reputation (and not that american presenter they keep flying out) who is rating him seriously , id love to read that, I have not come across anybody from an expert point of view who rates him up there, certainly nothing more than promising and needing a lot of work.

I love boxing, its my most loved sport, I want Parker to make it and put NZ/Samoa on the map, just sick of the lies out of Duco and the NZ media.

ON Tyson Fury, no many rate him, he is comic value, and it was obvious Klitschko threw that fight. It was common knowledge that his PPV earnings had dried up and people were losing interest in him. He needed a loss to boost his market appeal and create a legacy of having heart. Watch - next fight Fury will be dropped.
-
You almost had me until the conspiracy theory in that last para proved you are talking out if your arse.

The reason Parker is ranked is because of the way rankings work, not because a promoter is shouting his name. I agree that it is one of the weird things about boxing that you can climb rankings without beating those above you, but that's the game they all play because the moment you lose to someone ahead of you your climb halts and you start slipping.
I point again to ranking systems like boxrec that, although not flawless by any means, apply the same system over everybody so rankings are relative if fight numbers are the same. They seem to have Parker around the ranking that most pundits do.
Bob Sheridan may play up to his NZ audience a touch, but he is also a respected boxing hall of fame commentator that has seen more boxers live over the years than most.
I think everyone agrees that claims are empty until he steps up but talking up a prospect to try and get those opportunities is not lying.
Parker is fighting down here because currently that's where he can make money alongside gaining experience. If big names won't fight him yet then he is better off learning his trade where he has support rather than being a low paid undercard fighter. Quite obviously Duco have seen the PPV stats and know they earn from the Samoan community so have locked that in.
I'm just unsure what you want. You say he's not good enough then complain he isn't fighting big names. What do you want? -

tbh, i agree with meetthemonster

parker is about 3 years out imo before mixing it with the top 10-20.. people forget hes very young, but people are hyping him up so much

however, i do like how they are developing him.. working on areas which each fight..

joshua fought a lot of bums as well.. only his recent fight gave him some sort of credibility imo..
-

Look mate im looking at this as a boxing fan looking for reality and not marketing bullcrap. How about this for a break down.

This is your best top 10 in boxing currently who for after the next 18 - 24 months, Parker most certainly will not get a chance in ring with these guys before that. Dont even entertain the thought!!!! aint going to happen unless pigs begin to fly!

- Tyson Fury (Only looking for big money fights) 3 years away
- Alexander Povetkin - Would infuriate Parker something chronic - 3 years away

3) Wladimir Klitschko - Would KO Parker due to his poor footwork and open chin - 3 years away

4) Deontay Wilder - KO to Wilder - 3 years away

5) Kubrat Pulev - Parkers best chance to win in the top 10 but too good a technician currently - 2/3 years away

6) Luis Ortiz - Would KO Parker - 3 years away

7) Bermane Stirverne - Very talented boxer prone to an odd off night would outclass parker - 3 years away

8) Bryant Jennings - Read above, huge heart would not go down, no KO power - reminds me of Parker in many ways - 2/3 years

9) Ruslan Chagaev - Hard nut, would make another ideal target for Parker but technically would kill him right now 2/3 years

10) Anthony Joshua - Majorly over-hyped boxer, not truly tested but superb knock out power, would KO parker - 3 years

11) David Haye - Would dead set murder Parker - 3 years away

The above tier of boxers I believe are at least 2 to 3 year away targets for Parker to fight due to his current development

So this is the lay of the land of what you should expect to see being lined up for Parker

Tier 1 - If Duco is serious then within the next 2 years the name targets - whom I think Duco will or should go after go after for Parker that will test him properly and open the bigger fights.

Charles Martin - Current IBF champion - solid boxer but lacks flair, probably at his current peak, seriously realistic chance for Parker within 2 years. Doubt he will keep the title though.

Malik Scott - Talented boxer with good record but can not take the next step. Ideal gate keeper

Erkan Teper - Big man who is more akin to a street fighter - easier fight for Parker and matches close to where he is currently with development - would be a test

Antonio Tarver - 47 years old and still winning. Another Gate Keeper fight and a southpaw so DUCO could hype it to high heaven

Steven Cunningham - Does not have the dynamic talent to beat Parker but would give him a hell of a fight.

Carlos Takham - Solid, will never be champion but will give a great showing, great test again

Tony Tompson - Very little left to box for, would take a Parker pay day holliday in NZ, could potentially beat Parker, so danger fight

Derek Chisora - Wild fighter but open to be picked off, Could intimidate parker coming forward - great test.

Tomasz Adamek - Very experienced fighter who wouldnt knock Parker out but could easily outbox him, great test

Artur Szpilka - Dangerous fight for Parker but doesnt have the power punching to knock Parker out either. Test of boxing ability

These fights will develop Parker and properly begin to get other boxers and promoters to begin to take notice. These are also more dangerous fights where there is a chance Parker could actually loose.

Tier 2 - Watch out more than likely for sometime in the next 18 months these guys who look good, will add to the resume but wont beat parker

Lucas Browne

Chrisitian Hammer

Mike Perez

Jarrell Miller

Andy Ruiz

Mariusz Wach

Robert Helenius

Alexander Ustinov

Manuel Charr

Tier 3 - Next fight for Christchurch or just after

David Price
Eric Molina

Nagy Aguiela (Who KO Bergman in 1st round!)
Shannon Briggs

Tier 4 - anybody else forget it, Duco are just in it for the PPV in NZ

-

This is just NZ media mate bloating on about Parker. There is very little reality in this. The biggest fighters on the planet meet when the money is 'right', its not in their interest to dodge a great pay day especially when they already have losses on their resume. You have to live in a very sheltered world when you believe every top boxer is avoiding Joseph 'Mike Tyson' Parker.

You can bank this as FACT - none of the top 20 boxers are running scarred of Parker. Duco have no money to break Parker into the US or UK market, that's why he continues to fight in NZ.

They will be struggling to get a top 40 guy to come done and box him here or in Samoa. You think in just under 3 years Parker went from being a top amateur boxer to the most feared heavyweight walking the planet? and sponsored by BK ? Mate he is no Mike Tyson, hell he is no David Tua, nothing about Parker screams knock out King. He is a very good prospect, but nobody is ducking him, he just hasnt got value attributed to him yet. You cant get real street cred value fighting bums, you can in this modern age of boxing ratings get activity points.

Parker will go after the IBF title, it makes sense, the others ...........................NOPE
