The thing is, I quite liked the way he played last year but I wonder if these rumours of a party lifestyle are affecting his performance on the field (or perhaps there is a link both ways)..

I reckon Brown needs a rest.
6 K Bosh
7 Jacobsen
8 PGSBench L Bosh
Finau at 6 over K Boshier in my team.
Kaylum is a no.8, which is why the article suggests he would start there if Jacobson is at openside. Parker could also play at no.8 but is obviously behind Boshier in the pecking order.
If the starting loose forward trio is Brown-Jacobson-K Boshier with L Boshier and PGS on the bench there is no lock cover in the reserves. That means Brown either moves there for Ah Kuoi or is subbed off. Luke moves to 6 and L Boshier to 7. I don't think there should be 2 loose forwards in the reserves.
Which one is the good Boshier again, the one who was handy at open side? I can never remember.
I am only just starting to get the hang of which Goodhue is which and they play in different teams and completely different positions. I don't need another set of brothers to confuse me.
And don't get me started on the Umaga-Jensens. I have no chance with them.

Brothers named Kaylum and Lachlan. Are we sure they're not Australian? Their parents must be disappointed in their yachting careers at least.
Those are such a pair of fair dinkum aussie handles if I ever I’ve seen them.
I bet they drink Tooheys at every after match as opposed to Waikato Draught

I would settle for some locks and some loose forward options tbh.
A reserve hooker that doesn't screw the pooch throwing the ball in at the tail end of the game would be nice (although Harris may only be a marginal gain in that regard). -

Kaylum is in his first year at the Chiefs (22 yrs old). He's one of those talented sportsmen as a former NZ U20 rugby rep and NZ U19 cricket captain.
-
@bovidae I don't see need for Kaylum in 23 unless someone being rested. Sowakula can start with Luke moving from 7 to 8 when Lachlan come on. Finau at 6 or maybe Brown. The other is lock cover for Vaii and Ahkuoi. But maybe the latter is on the bench for a semi rest. Hope Harris Moli Roe and Lowe are all back in 23.

My loose forward trio was based on Barnes' comments in that article. The coaches don't think Sowakula is ready to start yet. It does impact the balance of the bench, as I mentioned.
Hope Harris Moli Roe and Lowe are all back in 23.
All of those apart from Moli played for the Dev team so are available for selection. Moli would need to play some club rugby first, which starts in the Waikato this weekend. Or he goes back to Blenheim to play.

Saturday 10 April, 7:05pm
Forsyth Barr Stadium, Dunedin
Referee: Ben O’Keeffe
Assistant 1: Mike Fraser
Assistant 2: Brendon Pickerill
TMO: Chris HartThese announcements are getting a bit redundant. It could be just 'pick three of the seven dwarves' and add Dopey as TMO.

seriously...what dont i see in sio? at least hes at 13, maybe with a little more space he can do something
will have to check if collins picked up a niggle, hope gregory has a good game at 12, build on last week
-
Massive opportunity for Gregory at 12, hope he seizes it!
-
@kiwiwomble it's not just you wondering how Sio starts so often!
-
For a guy that turned up at the Highlanders as a dirty dirty and has never troubled the selectors for further honours Hammington sure ends up getting a lot of gamedays. You wonder what they would have done without him over the seasons. Has turned out to be a reliable fill in.
-
@kiwiwomble said in Highlanders v Chiefs (Sat 10/4/21):
@crucial i lie hammington in the squad, as you say a reliable fill in, fakatava is exciting but i dont think hammington is going to loose a game for us
He's an interesting story. IIRC he contacted Dave Rennie and said he wanted to train at the Chiefs. Didn't want any support, contracts or promises, just wanted to see what that level was all about. Used to drive himself from Welly to training twice a week. He got his chance through some injuries and, I think, was never properly added to the roster.
Highlanders only really picked him up as a WTG (I think) but once again his dedication outweighed his 'journeyman' status and he ended up with game time. Has been a constant injury fill in ever since. -
@crucial love to hear stories like that, its one of the reasons Fumi tanaka was a bit of a fan fav, rocked up in dunners with no promises, had just been told by tony brown dunedin was a good place to play...joined a club, played the whole season, got picked up by otago, played the whole season...got picked up by the landers
i think some of his most common criticism come from playing next to smith, the game always slows a bit or he doesnt spot the same gaps...no he doesn;t...and there are few in the world that can!
